Belt Issues

Post by Eazy »

I'm working on a Rattler 50.

Anyone had any problems with the belts slipping?

It seems to die at about 27 and unless you come to a complete stop its slow as hell.

I'm almost positive its a belt, I just want to know how common of an issue this is.

Have you opened up the variator cover to check the belt's condition?

I've owned a number of twist-n-go scooters...still do. I've NEVER heard of any belt slipping. Ever. Clutch? Maybe. Belt...no. What is the actual symptom, is it dying at 27 mph? Maybe a bit more specific on your issue, we can help to pinpoint but I've never heard of a slipping belt....

Good points Matt... based on what I know of your problem it's got to be a bad wiffle pin actuator :x I think we need a better description to really help you out.

How many miles on your scooter?

Odds are more likely it's a variator or clutch issue. But the symptoms can also describe a clogged air filter and a few other issues.

13g and 5g rollers(why? I don't know), both sets from MRP, both sets nice and flatted.

And a super stiff clutch spring.

A lot was wrong in there. Now time to fix it.

13g + 5g = 9g (avg). Weird, that's stock for a 110. Of course I'm assuming 3 of each. Sounds like you have to set it up for your riding to even figure out what if anything is wrong. May not be the wiffle pin after all

Hopefully magnetic brass muffler bearings with the oilite coating for reducing debris in the exhaust flow with a minimum ammount of friction. Those add at least 2HP

Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays. Just routinely maintenance that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads.

Stock clutch spring, 5g rollers, and the carb jetted to where it should be.

Thing runs like a champ now, could probably use some heavier rollers but it will work for the time being.

Shouldn't you have to pass a test or something before you're allowed to modify any motor vehicle? The ammount of hacks out there scare me  My all time favorites are the 10ga amplifier power wire that people like to run by the hinge of their hood on a car, then through the door jamb when they install a stereo. Um, not good. Just drill the hole where it belongs or have a professional do it.

Not you... the person who had 5g and 13g weights in there to begin with. You're correcting the issues, that makes you the solution not the issue. Unless you did the car stereo wire as decribed

I thought so, just wanted to make sure.

As a side note. I installed car stereos for a few years and I once saw an 0ga over the fender of a car. It was terrible.

Spend enough time on internet forums and it doesn't seem to matter if it's cars, scooters or basic home repair. There are an awful lot of people out there who shouldn't be allowed to touch the tool box :D
