How much did you pay for your Buddy?
Hi all, I'm a new forum user here (and hopefully new scooter owner). I did a quick search and couldn't find how much people paid for their Buddy. I know there's the MSRP value, but I wanted to find out how much extra people paid for past the Buddy? (e.g. Setup fee, Registration, etc.)
While researching I called up a few areas around where I live (San Diego) and found some pretty drastic price differences. Two stores just a few blocks from each other had a hundred dollar difference and a store up north (Santa Ana) was offering for even 300+ dollars cheaper than the prices in San Diego.
Anyone else encounter anything similar? Is there any advice from the vets that I should look out for when purchasing a new Buddy? Much appreciated, thanks all and I apologize if this was discussed before (I couldn't find it in the search).
P.S. Looks like it's around $3200 out the door for a 125 cc Buddy in San Diego so far.

$3200 OTD for a dealer in CA is pretty much the norm.
In CA, the OTD price includes all tax, title and registration fees. This is not the case in all states. It also includes shipping, dealer prep and setup fees. Some dealers have waived these in the past. They way scooters are selling right now, it may become more and more rare.
For the dealer that had some for $300 less, it's possible that they're either waiving fees or even that they still have some '07s for sale.
We've heard there's going to be a price increase sometime, possibly soon.
Also, it's a good practice to try to buy the scooter from the dealer where you'll be going for service, even if it costs a little more (how much is up to you). Forging that owner/dealer relationship early on is often helpful. If that happens to be the dealer with the highest OTD price, you can mention to them that it's $100 less across town. But, as I always advise, don't go in expecting a deal. Scooters are selling quite well right now and even with a price increase, the Buddy will be the best scoot you can buy for the money.

I paid $2,000 for an '06 Buddy 125 with 24 miles on it. Some guys won it in a raffle and rode it around the neighborhood a couple times. It sat in his garage for a year. I was literally sitting on it 45 minutes after he posted it on craigslist.

$3,150 OTD for an 08 St Tropez which was just cost + dealer prep (on MSRP of $3,099). I already had locks and helmets. I also bought a rear rack, cowl protector and front black basket that they installed for me. I transferred plates from my old bike and paid sales tax ($240 in little Rhody) at the DMV. JavaSpeed in Providence are very fair. The kid from Utah is very sweet and Patrick should run for office; he's such a diplomat. I'm happy they're doing well.

That's definitely within the range we've seen here... And certainly not off by a couple thousand!Wafflehaus wrote:wow, I paid $3,200 (2007 Italia with 5+ miles on it) incl. tt&l. Now i'm thinking I overpaid by a couple thousand. oh well. it's been worth it.

OTD $$$$$$$$$$$$$
I bought my 2008 Buddy 125 OTD for $3041 about 3+ weeks ago here in San Diego, minus the $100 for first check and a $100 helmet I didn't need.
So I would say $3200 OTD is reasonable.

3700 OTD includes TTL & registration fees. also includes rear rack, topcase, windscreen, chrome cowl protectors & footrests.
all I need now is that amazing seat I saw on someone else's pamplona here the other day.....I'm still trying to find out where I can buy leather without having to buy an entire hide(!!!???) so I can make a cover. who knows maybe I'll have to save my pennies and purchase a seat like hers from the company that made hers. Then I could have them pad and shape it a little maybe...going for something slightly taller (without increasing the total width).

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I just wanted to give an update; I bought an 08 125cc orange Buddy last week at Motorsports. The guys there were really cool and it was great customer service.
Everything came out to about $3300 for the bike w/ chrome back plate, license, registration, two helmets + goggles, and discount on gloves + lock. One of the guys at the store bought my girlfriend and I lunch after too!
Usually I'm late to work, but now I'm arriving on time because it's so much fun riding.

One dealer wanted $3,250 for a stock '07 125 OTD and $3,450 for a stock '08 125 OTD. Another dealer wanted $3,225 for a stock '08 125 OTD ($2,699 msrp). Stock is low and scooters are flying out the door. Dealers don't have to 'deal' anymore. Some are beginning to gouge.
A Piaggio dealer quoted me $3,900 OTD for a stock Fly 150 ($2,899 msrp).
Both the higher priced Genuine dealer and the Piaggio dealer told me my msrp prices were wrong and I didn't know what I was talking about.
