gas leaking out of my rattler?
I just noticed that some gas has leaked from my rattler. It looks like it is coming from some type of overflow valve possibly? I filled up this morning and came to work and the scooter has been parked out front ever since. It is leaking from the right side and dripping down onto the muffler pipe at about the point where the pipe is connected to the frame. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

That's the charcoal canister, part of your emissions control system. It happens when you top you tank off. Vapors are supposed to travel down a hose from the tank and get trapped there, if you top off gas makes it down the tube and eventually out the breather hole on the bottom. Scared the poop outta me too when it happened for the first time. Don't be suprised if you get some vapor lock in the near future...

Yes, but the manifold is towards the center.BGK wrote:The carb is toward the other side of the engine.Eazy wrote:50 or 110?
I don't think it matters.
Sounds like either the spacer o-ring or the carburetor o-ring may have gone bad.
Have you or anyone else done any carb work to it recently?
It was just an idea.

I vapor locked on my scoot to work this morning luckily I was able to fart it out but I was contemplating turning around and swapping for the truck. I would hate to have a VL while I was crossing the I-5 bridge into Oregon.nissanman wrote:That's the charcoal canister, part of your emissions control system. It happens when you top you tank off. what happen to mine was the engine started to cut out and then died. it took it a few starts and some waiting but then started up again. then it happened again a couple miles later so then i just waited, a few start attempts later and then it started right up and i haven't had a problem since. i suppose you could probably take your gas cap off and start it. that might work too.

If it's real bad it just dies while riding. Like you ran out of gas, the more throttle you give it the more it dies. If you simply can't sit there and wait for it to start again remove the gas cap and start it, this tends to vibrate the bubble out of the line. If it's super duper bad (had this happen to me) just ride it with the gas cap off for a bit. Yes it will splash out a little, but I didn't feel like waiting all day or pushing the scooter anywhere. You can read a few posts about it in genuine rattler too

I think I just did the vapor lock thing....
Filled up today - rode with no problem
parked it for a little while & then went to run another errand - it wouldn't idle - it just died without giving it more gas (as if the idle was set too low)
rode it another 6 or 7 miles & now it will idle fine.
Little Vapor Lock?
