Another new Rattler owner
Just thought I'd drop in an say hello. I picked up a new/leftover/demo 2007 Rattler 110 last weekend. I don't think I did too badly on pricing with $2499 plus tax, tag, title, and license out the door for around $2700 total. The dealer knocked $100 off the MSRP and didn't charge for setup or freight so about $225 off total. It had 230 miles on it as they rented it out a few times as well for people to take their motorcycle licensing tests. One person did lay it over so it has a nice scuff on one side panel, but I'm not too worried about it.
I managed to put almost 80 miles on since Saturday. So far it's been a lot of fun to ride and I'm really hoping I can reach my goal of reducing the use of my truck by about half considering it typically averages 11 mpg. That would mean I'll put close to 5-6,000 miles per year on the Rattler. Of course at that rate, I'll have it paid for itself in gas savings in just over a year.

Honestly, I wasn't worried about a bit of road rash. I don't plan to lay it down any time soon, but at least I won't have put the first scratch on it. Plus I think I read somewhere that the panels were pretty rediculously inexpensive so if I ever want to put a new one on, I can buy it cheaply enough on my own.

I hear you about the truck mileage - I run my Superduty powerstroke around for my business (16mpg) so I made a scooter rack that slides in the back hitch....leave the truck at jobs and commute to and from home with the scoot.
You should see some of the materials I've carried with the scoot so far!
31 cents a mile to operate the diesel vs. 5 cents a mile for the scoot is a no brainer....and that doesn't even include the maintanence comparisons (both of which I do myself) or new vehicle cost... would make it even a wider gap.
Good thing I can write-off the scoot and the fuel!

Just a quick update. I've put over 300 miles on the scoot now. I finally decided it was time to top off the 2 cycle oil. Judging by what I saw, you should be able to go at least 300 miles before thinking about adding oil. I was tired of the oil light coming on for the past 50 miles, so I filled it up again. Even with 320ish miles on it, the tank didn't take a full quart of oil. I'm averaging around 68-70 mpg by the time you take into consideration that the speedo and odometer are roughly 10% optimistic.
I also learned that even though I don't get the vapor lock issue people talk about when my tank is full, if I don't put a few miles on it right away and top it completely off, it will run out the overflow vent. My solution is to fill it up only when I about to ride somewhere rather than when I'm ready to stop. Pretty easy fix for me.
