I went with the local Vespa club for a ride today, we ended up at the Tu Vien Kim Son Monastery, it's a huge beautiful Vietnamese temple and monastery surrounded by redwoods about 1300 feet up in the Santa Cruz mountains. We kind of stumbled upon it and they were very very nice there, asked us a bunch about the scoots and our ride up the mountain, then offered us a tour and free delicious Vietnamese food. Def scooting there again.

Excellent! My roomy in college was from Vietnam and had endured terrible hardships with his family escaping the country in the late 70's. I remember him taking me to his home for family meals and fixing stuff in the dorm. Some of it was really good and some of it was an aquired taste. I remember just snacking on dried cuttlefish straight out the bag and creative ways to doctor-up Raman noodles.
Sounds like you had a great ride and some good memories.

yeah pho would have been great, too bad it was a vegetarian monastery. Forgot to mention that after the ride we all met up at il motorino in SC to meet R. Black, he is a big scooter advocate and does lots of scooter art, covers for scoot magazine, fliers for scoot events, and a lot of concert posters. He signed his new book for me and we talked a while about this southern california vespa group "The Pharaohs" that I used to know people from about 12 years ago.

My mom's family is from Saigon, my dad's family is from Central and North Vietnam (I don't know where). I was born in San Fran (how cliched) and moved to Texas when I was 3 months old...so I've got a 'real' Texas twang that you can hear when I speak Vietnamese!BigColdMartini wrote:Hey Bunny,
The Kung Fu brand is one of the best, I like the beef flavor with extra green onions and a hard boiled egg. What part of Vietnam is you family from? My roommate was from the Cam Ranh Bay area.
I <3 Kung Fu brand Onion flavor! Picked up a case of it last night! Oh, and there's this Japanese style Udon that is out of this world! YUM!
