I can't drive 55!
For all of you out there that remembers this song, it suits me well. I recently (last week) bought a 110 rattler and I can't get it to go over 55! I just passed my license test, and took it out for a legal spin. I was disappointed that it wouldn't go past 55. Even on a large hill it maxed out at 55. Is it restricted? If so how can I fix it?

I get 55 on flat ground and up to 60 down decent hills. But I agree, I have read adding a pipe might add a little top end. Recently I have seen some posts for this V8 muffler, saying it will add more torque in the middle and a little more top end. I wonder if those posts are not someone trying to sell me one. I have been looking for more info before I take the plunge.
I don't ride on highway's or interstates where I worry about going less than 55, but what I worry about is in traffic where I have to go up a hill at 55. I hate slowing down the rest of the traffic.

I have read about that stuff, but how much of a difference do you see at the top end? Just curious what I am getting for the investment.brandon75173 wrote:Variator, pipe, and fatten the jet up to around 100. Something else alot of folks miss, mill the head to get 7.5:1 or so. Do all that and you will see a big difference.

Odometer, I know its not 60 according to other posts. I have read its about 10% off so maybe 54. I have read they are not restricted, except for the muffler which is emmisions restricted. I am not versed enough on the technicals to know for sure.
I am 99% happy with it, but I can see making mod's within the next year if I can see some real improvement.
I am a big guy (6' 1", 220), so I am not sure how much that affects it.

No the 110s are not restriced.
When I first got mine I would see 58 on flats (with 10g rollers), then I played around with the rollers and went back to 10s (3 new, 3 old) and now I can only hit 51 on some flats and maybe 60 down a decent hill. I should try to swap in the original rollers but my variator should be here today. I already have the Prima pipe, 2k spring and 1 up on the stock jet.
There's someone on here who's posted that he's seen 70 with the stock motor and he just had a variator, but I'm not expecting those results.

I don't think your odometer is limited, I know what you mean about the speed seemingly hitting a wall in that area, but if you have a hilly area with some decent inclines nearby, give them a shot. You should see it go above that. How big a guy are you, I wonder if that plays a role.
When I ride Wide Open all the time the odometer reads consistently 54-56 on flat ground, I can get it no higher than that, the hills where I hit 60+ were pretty steep. But beware, going up those hills I drop down in the low 50's

what year is your rattler? mine is an 07 and i've seen 63 on my speedo. down hill of course, but i'm just wondering if it's something they've done with the 08's. i'm 6'2" and about 230, and i see 55 on the hightway if i tuck. mind you these are all indicated as i don't have gps. and of course it gets faster with the break in.

It is interesting to me to see all these posts. My Roughhouse 50 cc was getting between 55-57 mph indicated on flat ground (speedo only goes up to 50), which was more like 51 according to radar. After putting a new exhaust, clutch springs, rollers, and jet on, I've lost about 3 mph off the top end. I can't take it on the highway anyway, so it doesn't really matter that much. I'm supposed to be getting my new air filter this week, which I assume will help a great deal. Of course then I'll have to go back up to a 90 jet - it's at 85 right now. I have an advantage over most people, my shrimpy weight of 115 lbs. However, my 230-lb husband was able to get his Roughhouse going almost as fast with just stock parts, derestricted of course. It just takes him way longer to get there.

I have a 2007. I bought it used last week with 2,000 miles on it. I have no idea how it was taken care of or broken in. It seems like it is in good condition. I thought it would be fun to drive around town. My husband has a dirt bike so I thought its only fair to keep the toys even!
I weight 135, and am 5'4. I didn't think my weight should make a difference. I may try a steeper hill and see how it goes.

Re: I can't drive 55!
Honestly, without serious modification ( re-engineering?) to make that little 110 something it isn't, or wasn't intended to be, the prospect of running WITH 55mph traffic isn't really what the Rattler's sweet-spot is...sunbunny wrote:For all of you out there that remembers this song, it suits me well. To soup up that li'l 2-stroke and have to run it WOT as a commuter vehicle is just asking for an unreliable and still underpowered scoot. The BUDDY is much better suited to that type of task.
My opinion, the Rattler fits a much different niche.

I'm happy going 55, I just thought going down a large hill the odometer would read greater than 55. I was just wondering if it was maxed out at that reading or if it should/could read higher pending driving down hill.
I agree that the rattler is very different than a Buddy and that is what I wanted. I'm not looking for speed with it. I just wanted to know if the odometer was limited.

If I weren't selling my Rat I'd gladly ship the v8 pipe around to let folks try it themselves. The guy who sells it is underestimating what it does for top end on the stock motor. You can literally hear the air being sucked madly through the carb at higher rpm. And if the carb was bigger I'm sure I'd see higher than the 71 indicated mph that appeared a time or two. Right now I frequently see 68 mph...61 up a long gradual incline.
I was driving quite a ways on a 50mph zone and with the Prima installed I'd see a car or two pass me (hilly around here). With the v8 I'd usually pass a car or two myself. NO JOKE!
Total different machine with it on. Smooth as silk acceleration. I wish someone else would just buy one so I wouldn't be the 'lone voice in the wildernes'.
