Keep Rover Dan in thoughts and prayers please

Post by irishtim »

"Dan was hit last night (07/31)and is in the hospital. He has a broken collarbone, broke his arm in 3 places, 7 (?) broken ribs, and possibly a broken hip.

The accident happened at 1:30am this morning, where a car pulled out in front of him." From Rover's SC website.

Dan is an scooter rider from Detroit and is a self-employed (tool-designer/online retailer) and single dad. He can use all the prayers and positive thoughts you can send his way please. He made the most amazing trophies for the Motor City Shakedown Rally, is hugely involved in boy scouts with his kids, etc. A stand-up guy all the way.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. :(

Thanks for all that folks! Rover Eric is setting up a thing with scooter-relief and info on that will be posted soon.
Here's some more recent info:

" ..went to see Dan in the hospital today. He's in pretty good spirits considering his injuries.
he had his left arm operated on yesterday (had to have a metal rod intalled) , he's having his right hand done either tomorrow or tuesday. His lung was collapsed, has since "re-inflated". His hip has a fracture, which they're hoping may heal on it's own. If not, he'll have to have surgery to put screws in. I can't remember how many ribs he told me were broken, it was A LOT, though. and his right collar bone is broken.
Plus he said that he was pretty much one giant bruise from his neck down...
he may be in there till Friday if anyone wants to visit, due to his injuries, he can't pick up the phone, yet.." Mod Mike from Rovers' website

"He's self-employed, makes his living by selling custom 1-off items on ebay ( custom engraved cases, stamps, branded leather items ). Obviously he can't make his living if he's unable to move.

The double whammy is that it was a hit+ run accident. The guy hit him and didn't even stop.... it was a car passing by later that saw him laid out in the road and stopped to get him help." Rover Eric from MV

Positive thoughts for a quick recovery for Dan.

I will NEVER understand how someone can HIT a person with their car and NOT STOP!!! I just don't get that lack of basic human kindness.

SUPER MECHA POSI MOJO VYBES from me to all y'all. I hope that you'll post the scooter relief information on this thread so we can contribute. Every little bit counts!

There were at least THREE hit-and-run casualties in Philly this weekend. A pedestrian, a bicyclist, and one of them was on a boat. Sigh, puny humans. What's wrong with these people?! :x

Most late night hit and runs are drunk people not wanting to get caught. BASTARDS! Please let us know when the relief is set up. I'll definitely contribute what I can. I have a soft spot for self employed single fathers because I was raised by one and can only imagine how his children feel right now.

Thanks olhogrider! You beat me to it!

Thanks "

Here's an update:

"Good news....

The driver that caused all this was arrested for D.U.I the same night and in jail on a 25,000 bond thanks to the St. Clair Shores Police. Dan is doing better. No internal injuries. Now he needs a good lawyer. His spirits are up, but he's in pain, with limited range of motion in both arms. He can't feed himself or use the phone which is frustrating.

You can see tire tracks on his hip. He'll be having another surgery on Wednesday on this thumb (right hand). Looks like he'll be in the hospital for a while. " Rover Eric from MV

What a champ! it is hard to see a fellow scooterist like that, but I am glad he is moving toward recovery. I am so happy they caught the perp. I am pretty involved in local stuff around where I live. Sometimes when something very brutal and callous happens in my immediate neighborhood, I write the Judge prior to sentencing to show there are people that really care about safety in our community.

This person could have killed one of our own or other innocent person. I wonder if we could write letters to the Judge prior to sentencing to let him or her know how strong OUR community is. If anyone sees or gets info on other boards, let me know!

arrg- just read this was in Grosse Point-probably this person will buy there way out of a conviction

PS I'd save this picture, you never know it could make for a scavenger hunt on MB. It sure beats the current world wide tag, my MB friend.
