After much slugging, greasing and embarassing non-closure I figured out the troublesome resistance to buddy seat closure.
The horizontal rod under the seat that contacts the seat latch is improperly aligning with the latch. To close without drama:
1. Let seat gently fall to flat position
2. Nudge the rear of the seat toward you, (you're mounting on the left) just a bit
3. Press the seat down on the sweet spot.
That's all there is to it. No more slugging, repetitive slamming and so on. If you take a dental-style mirror and visualize how the seat post contacts the seat latch you'll see how this adjustment works as a ready remedy. Scooter
