scooter scavenger hunt week two- movie madness
sept 14-20
this hunt ends midnight your time on saturday.

1 pt your scooter at a MOVIE theater. not a broadway theater. not a local drama theater. a MOVIE theater.

3 pts if it is a drive-in movie theater. +1 pt if the movie is playing while you are there.
1 pt for each movie poster (hung by the theater) that is clearly visible in the picture. (you may not bring your own poster and hang it up) max. 5 posters
1 pt for each person in the picture posing with your scooter holding popcorn. it must be obvious that they are posing with your scooter, not standing nearby or inside the doors. max 10 pts. each person must have their OWN popcorn. it may be an empty popcorn cup.
3 pts if someone from the theater staff is in uniform in your photo. dont get any kids fired.

just for fun....recreate a movie scene with you and your scooter. bonus points will be awarded by creativity and authenticity. (up to 10 pts)

happy hunting!

totals from the last round will be posted this evening.

Nice Hunt topic, Sailortot. Do we get extra points for each screen visible at the drive-in?

Crap all the drive-ins around here are closed, most torn down! :(

Last time I went to a drive in (in south Dallas), we almost got caught in the crossfire of a gang shootout.

But I think I know just the place for this pic!

Alright then, I guess I'll start the previews.

Here's the scoot trying to decide which of the 10 movies shown on posters it wants to go see.
1Pt - 1 pt your scooter at a MOVIE theater
5Pts - 1 pt for each movie poster (hung by the theater).
6Pts total.

I'm not happy with this pic, so I may replace it. But it's been over 24 hours and no one has posted, so you're all stuck with this one for now.

You're right, Eric, there aren't many drive-ins left in the US. But I live just a few miles from six movies at once - the Scottsdale Six. Too bad I couldn't get a pic that showed both a running movie (or more) and the scoot, unless I wanted to pay to get in. O well, here is my first attempt, hopefully to be improved upon later.

Some of the big Pineapple Express scenes were shot around the corner from my house—the car chase/police/gun scenes. In the chase, they drive past the same intersection several times, as they only had one block to shoot so just kind of looped it, like a cartoon. Ha.

They do a lot of shooting in my vicinity. Unfortunately, it's usually Reno 911 or My Name is Earl looking for an area that looks suitably white trashy. It often involves explosions and gunplay.

Obviously, they shoot a lot of locations around here but my favorite is this one, which has been in dozens of movies (most recently, National Treasure 2). I actually got married here and had the reception on the balcony in this screenshot.

It's Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. It's actually owned by the city and open as a park most of the time. Nice place for a picnic. The public is not allowed in the house, though.

10 pts: just for fun....recreate a movie scene with you and your scooter. bonus points will be awarded by creativity and authenticity. (up to 10 pts)

Movie scene being recreated: Roman Holiday (1953) starring Gregory Peck & Audrey Hepburn. At this point in the movie, Audrey is driving the scooter and obviously doesn't know what she is doing. She drives through crowds of people, knocking over chairs and even rips through someone's artwork. Gregory Peck is holding on for dear life! (sailortot, you'll have to tell me how many points I get for this, if any  )

Total = 10 pts

My sentiments exactly.

Eric says: "...But I think I know just the place for this pic!" So I'm thinking Graumann's Chinese Theater - a classic - or some dreary, late night shot at a downtown Hollywood porno theater (none of those left in Phoenix, I'm sorry to say).

Then SL shows all the movie locations in Lemont, IL (whoda thunk it!), not one of which is a theater - bummer; then suggests that I get shot - bigger bummer .

So we have promises, offers of violence, another one of my crappy pics, and your's, MarsR. Here's hoping the week ends bigger than it started!

Crap, I said that? Wonder where I was thinking of… ? Duh…

Grauman's would be tough—nowhere to stop and you wouldn't be able to see posters, just throngs of tourists staring at the ground. (Also, I think they only have a couple posters visible on the outside.)

I decided to leave my first picture up as an object lesson in just how crappy a Scavenger Hunt picture can be and still count for points. Obvoiously, you don't need to be Ansel Adams to join in on the fun! But I am going to sacrifice point for a (slightly) better picture and much better theater:
Image

1Pt - 1 pt your scooter at a MOVIE theater
4Pts - 1 pt for each movie poster (hung by the theater).
5Pts total.

Sorry, ScootLemont, the sidewalks on Mill were so quiet this morning that I couldn't find someone to take the picture while I played dead, so no blood points either  .

Apparently, the trend in modern multiplexes is to have some sort of pointy architectural embellishment over a row of posters.

Here's my scooter in front of one the few active Drive-ins left. Unfortunately, they had just turned the lights out on the marquee. It is the DeAnza Drive In, Tucson, AZ. It's kind of dark, but you can make out the movie titles.
edit - oops 4 points. 1 for the scoot, 3 for a drive-in

Scooter Movie scene from "RUN, LOLA, RUN!"

Post by MiguelATF »

Okay fellow Scooteristas, here is another entry from the wilds of Southern Oregon, this particular Scavenger Photo was taken at the Ashland Cinema, in Ashland, Oregon - home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and a town much better known for Theater than Cinema, but what the Hey! (Ashland has a population of approx 30,000 and is 5 miles south of Talent, where I live, which only has a population of around 7,500...and no movie theaters....so I had to trek to the Big City to take this....ahhh, the things we do for Glory.)

And the Scene depicted - by Michele and myself - recreates an actual scene from near the very beginning of the Way Cool German film, "RUN, LOLA, RUN!" - in which Lola goes shopping and then when she comes out she discovers that some creep has stole her scooter so she chases after him...but fails to catch him. (For those who haven't seen the movie, BTW, it's great - and the fact that Lola's scooter gets stolen at the very beginning of the story, which we see in a flashback, has serious and interesting consequences for the rest of the movie....which I won't give away here.) But when you do see the movie, you will notice that the creep who steals the scooter IS wearing DARK GLASSES (!!!) - and that Lola, chasing him, is carrying her Helmet. In this photo though, the photographer (me!) took a liberty and had 'Lola' actually wearing her helmet....cause it's a cool paint-spattered multi-colored lid which seems in keeping with the punk-rock nature of the movie. During the rest of the film, Lola wears a sleeveless top so we had 'Lola' wear one here too, for costume authenticity.

So the scoring goes as follows -
1 Point for being at a Movie Theater -
Then an additional point for each Movie Poster visible and, yes folks, there are 8 of them here so that's 8 Pts!
And then, here we go into the gray area but I'm relying on sailortot's judgement here - hopefully a bunch of bonus points for both creativity and authenticity....

How many points does this get, sailortot?

And, though there was no way to put it in the photo, there are two very cool quotations which appear on the screen at the beginning of "Run, Lola, Run!". The first is by t.s. eliot - and it goes like this ---

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

Cool, huh?
The second quote, which also appears on the screen at the beginning of the movie, is (believe it or not?!) from a German Soccer Coach, Sepp Herberger, and it is, simply---

After the game is before the game.

Definitely on the Zen side of things.

So.....great Scavenger Challenge, sailortot! And for all my fellow Scavenger Hunters, just remember....

After the Hunt.....is Before the Hunt!

marsr - Great scene - and great Tribute not only visually to ROMAN HOLIDAY but also to the spirit of the content of the movie - including both the knocked-over chair....and the ripped-through artwork.

There's an old expression, 'When in Rome....' - and I think the new expression is...when in Rome....drive your Scooter like a lunatic.

Nice job on the Pic.

Oooops! I stand corrected. Thanks for bringing me back to semi-sanity, Syd....

But I'm not posting any point totals because, like others, I am waiting the creative point adjudications of our esteemed leader, sailortot....so hope still lives in the breast of this scooterista.

Guess it's all in the detail... I thought we got points for people AND popcorn, not people with popcorn. Finding someone who didn't just throw away the cold crappy popcorn in the trash bin right out side the theater door is tough. These kids are probably saving it to make Xmas tree ornaments or something.

1 Point for Scooter at the movies
4 points for posters
1 point for popcorn girl

Dorothy went to the movies today. She had a hard time finding a place to pose where I could also get posters in the shot, as they are on signs strung out wa - a - a - ay far along the sidewalk. So, instead, we went to the party supply shop and got popcorn boxes to hand to these nice people who volunteered to stand with her for a picture.

There are lots of really nice people in Tulsa, OK!

Image

1 pt. - Dorothy at the movie theater
10 pts. - 10 folks with popcorn boxes posing with Dorothy

11 points total.

P.S. Somebody helped me before, but I can't find the link. How do I make this photo larger in Flickr??

P.P.S. How do you like Dorothy's new seat cover? She's very proud of it. Thanks to Alix for offering it as a raffle item, and to Crystal for providing it!

5 pts for 5 movie posters

Sorry, I just couldn't bring myself to gather the people with popcorn or the theater employee this time.

just for fun....recreate a movie scene with you and your scooter. bonus points will be awarded by creativity and authenticity. (up to 10 pts)

Total = 6 pts + ???

MiguelATF wrote:Okay fellow Scooteristas, here is another entry from the wilds of Southern Oregon, this particular Scavenger Photo was taken at the Ashland Cinema, in Ashland, Oregon - home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and a town much better known for Theater than Cinema, but what the Hey!

After the Hunt.....is Before the Hunt!

miguel, you need to decide if you are using this picture as the scene depiction or as the movie theater picture.

Hmmm, not really sure I understand your comment here. His picture looks kind of like mine, i.e., a movie scene in front of a movie theater.

Oh, ok, so I get 0 pts for my scooter at a movie theater, 0 pts for the posters and 10 bonus points for the movie scene, right? So 10 pts total? Please just ignore the movie theater in the background. That is really the Coluseum in Rome. See the arches?

MarsR, just submit the same photo twice, since it satisfies both requirements.
I suppose I should be upset, even feel violated, but I'm not. No, in fact, I think this is a friendly message, like "Hey, wanna play?" and yes I want to play. I really really do.

Yeah, that's tempting. But I figure that people can just look at the same one twice.
