WKRP Scooter Rally 2007

Post by blurblaine »

Just got back home from hanging out at the Gypsy Hut during the WKRP Scooter Rally in Cincinnati on 3.31.2007

I'm sure many pics will get posted tonight, plus SteMer has some great video...

Just wanted to share what is going on right now!

Here's a few photos from Saturday's scenic ride - the largest of the 3 rides that were offered. I hope to have some videos up soon on YouTube.

Those guys are really frickin' hardcore (and really nice).

Spending 12 hours in the saddle to drive out to a rally? Damn. Just damn.

Hey SteMer,

Thanx for posting links to the pics you took and the 2 videos...

Very nice!

I'm also impressed by your ability to drive, turn, brake, and shoot decent video at the same time ... perhaps this should be added to the driving test in Ohio!

Hey 'mybuddy' - ouch! It does look like a stinger. Hope you can move on Monday & Tuesday - day 2 & 3 are always the worst.

I had a blast. This was my first rally and it certainly won't be my last. The group ride was intense. I just wish that I had more time to soak in some of the other events of the weekend.

Seemed to me we got pretty well soaked during the middle portion of the scenic ride. I was still damp in places when I got home. :)

Matt,

Take care of that knee man. I can't believe you stuck it out and finished the ride, you've got more guts than me. What did you tell your wife?

I just told her that I went down in a blaze of glory right in the middle of everyone watching. I must have had the greatest puppy dog eye look on my face because all she did was laugh at me. She knew my pride hurt worse then the knee.

It feels worse today, the skin is starting its healing process, I have it bandaged up pretty good, hard to bend my knee, the sorest part is the skin, I put plenty of ice on it Saturday night and yesterday. The swelling went down which is good, it just when I bend it now because of the road rash.

That belongs to his wife. Dave did a great job leading and blocking and generally riding that Buddy in ways that would exceed my risk threshold.

pocphil, who was also at WKRP but riding an MP3 (very cool scooter) can also pull off riding a pink Buddy, and he did it first - on the Lake Erie Loop doing very high speed for many hours straight. This is well documented elsewhere.

Vinny I don't think I met you at the rally, what were you riding? I was born/raised in NJ, where are you from? That looks like the balloon festivals they do in Hunterdon county in your avatar.

I was riding a silver GTS with a union sticker on my windshield from the fire department local I belong to. You might have seen me blocking a few intersections during the scenic ride. I'm from Bergen County but I hang out in Union County quite a bit and New York City. Yes, my avatar was taken at the balloon festival that is held in July.

Were you wearing a grey Corazzo jacket and riding near the rear of the group? If so, we met at the first stop. I had on the yellow jacket and thought you were from Cincinnati because you were helping out with the blocking. Good to ride with you. And thanks for the help!

Lagerhead, I saw your scoot but I didn't get the chance to meet you. I have to admit that loved the simple design additions to your buddy. I have a slight argyle fetish. See you on the road.

I still think there is something fundamentally disturbing about the "I rode with Scooter Dave" thong. The t-shirt is scary enough. Does the thong have his picture on it too?

This year's rally theme was 'Scum of the Earth'. One of the signs touting the event even read 'Welcome, Scum!'.

I think the themes for each WKRP rally come from episodes from the TV show. There was an episode that featured a punk rock band named Scum of the Earth.

My Buddy was decorated with "Welcome Scum", "We Are the Scum of the Earth" and pictures of the WKRP In Cincinnati cast.
