Ohio licensing for scooter pilot?

Post by Vic »

I can't seem to locate the exact laws about being permitted to ride a scooter in Ohio.

Specifically, what is the definition of a moped in Ohio and what age do you need to be in order to ride one?

I have a 14 year old son, he will be 15 next April. He wants some 2 wheeled transportation next year.

I know that kids age 15 are permitted a limited license, a "moped license" but I can't seem to locate the specifics.

I was told by a dealer that the "moped" has to have pedals, also, but I doubt that, I think that it just needs to be less than the state's definition of a motorcycle (greater than 50cc, able to go faster than 30mph, and so on).

Anyone know?

Thanks,

That is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks.

Wow, I did not realise that 14 year olds were also allowed to operate mopeds... Please don't tell my son!

Looks like a couple of Vespas are on the list, hmmm... it would be funny if my son got a Vespa before I did... :?

Cheers,
