A new puppy. A new beginning. [OT]
After a few months of healing and coping (or, trying to do both), Stacey and I adopted a new puppy yesterday. It's a little soon for me, but everything fell into place so well that it seemed like it was supposed to happen.
We're in the process of getting to know him, so he currently lacks a name (I don't like naming creatures, critters, or things until I get a good feel for them), so he's stuck with the temporary moniker of 'Spot'.
He's a 4-month-old greyhound pup, and he's incredibly sweet and laid back (at the moment -- we'll see what happens as he gets used to his new home here).
More pictures are here -- please note that most of the pictures on the first page show an incredibly tired lil' puppy; he had a VERY busy day.
And again, our most sincere thanks to all of you for the outpouring of support and insanely good juju -- it really has helped us a lot.

I'm new here, so let me first offer my condolences and my congratulations to you. (On both the new puppy and the new wife) I too am about 6 months into life with both my new husband and my new doggy. Though I've yet to venture into my new life with a scooter as of yet, that is going to change VERY soon. (I'm just weighing out the 50 vs. the 125 right now)
Here's a pic of our little brat. She's just about the strangest "dog" I've ever seen, heard, or known...but then again, I'm not entirely sure she IS a "dog" at all.
Best wishes to you, and I hope this little guy soon heals all the pain for the both of you.
P.S.
As far a name, he looks like a "Widgit" to me.

Scooters AND puppies!!!
Man this place is getting dangerous for me to keep logging into!
My wife and i have two hairy kids, not dogs NO that would be beneath them!
a jack russel/chihuahua mix-Charley
a papillion/chihuahua mix-pepper
As soon as I:
A. Decide which bike I want
B. Get the bike and feel comfortable/confident on it.
We will attempt to see about getting doggles and ways to secure the pups on the bike for riding around!

I had to do something (That work thing I get paid to do!)
My most heartfelt and sincere condolences on the loss of your family member. For those reading, pets are part of the family!
My now mother-in-law (Got married back n September myself) recently raised her voice at my wife (A VERY uncommon thing mind you!) My wife said with the current age of our dogs we could expect X years with Charlie and Y years with pepper. My mother-in-law was visibly upset and told her never to speak like that again. We were all in shock! My mother-in-law never raises her voice and rarely did it when my wife was growing up.
Dogs are part of the family.
I was talking with my father the day he had to put our family dog down. I was out of college, working and all. He didn't think I could handle the news over the phone. Sad.
Well, you have a new friend to get to know. Never will replace the other but you'll start a new path with that rather quite and energetic looking "spot"

Good for you guys. I think the new dog will help the healing process. That one looks like a good human name would be suitable.
<--- Riley is our guy. He's a character, doesn't work the brakes so welll yet...
Enjoy your new family member!
Dale.

I am happy you have adopted. Suffering the loss of our pets is always
a difficult ordeal. The new family member will definitely help in the healing process.
In fact, when I have friends who have suffered a loss, I try to
convince them to get another pet right away. Those people whom have
listened to me have always later said that was the best thing to do, get
a new pet right away.
As for a name, how about "Bus" as in greyhound bus lines.
Oh, when you say adopted, did you get him from a shelter?
Sidenote: Looks to me he owns your place.

i have a ferret named "Squeegie Ouiji Kittieyumsocks" ... long story, but cute weasel.
and for the record, dispite a love of koosh balls shared by many ferrets, they qualify as "soft rubber" and are not a healthy toy. this honey got an intestinal obstruction and needed to get internally lubed to get it out. (vet $$ ) I even found a few colords strands of koosh in her poo later

God, I bet that dog is amazingly fast. I know full-grown greyhounds are. I had a girlfriend once who had four (4!) of them in their two bedroom house.
One time, we were out walking them, one got loose. I chased after it for about 5 steps. It took two bounds and was going SOOOO fast, I couldn't believe it.
Anyhow, here's a pic of Floyd. He's 1/2 Miniature Pinscher, 1/2 Chihuahua. 7 lbs. of fury. He bit two old ladies so far, who wouldn't take the hint that he didn't want to be petted by them. (He never bites hard, just enough so that you know he's not f*cking around. )
See the kink in his tail? He actually caught it one time. He's brilliant for a tiny dog, but still an idiot compared to any lab...

Wow, what a handsome pup. I would like to suggest the name SPLOTCH. The black splotches on his coat remind me of a sunburn earned from a springbreak on Padre Island while in college.
I did not take the propper length of time to rub the sun screen EVENLY and ENTIRELY over my skin.
My greyhound, Misty, is white with brindle splotches. Congrats on the new addition.

He's still slow, but that'll change as he grows. Cohen and Nico (our other greys) were insanely fast... Racing greys can go from 0 - 40mph in 3 strides.
Ben, I like Cecil, but it was the name of one of my lil' animal friends in college.
I think his name is going to be Cloud. And if anyone has a problem with that, they can take it up with my wife.

My wife and I love Greyhounds. We adopted two retired racers some years ago. One was an all white female named Honey, the other was a blue brindle named Blue (also female). Honey was the perfect dog. Blue was not. But Blue had been adopted and returned so many times.....She also had had a tough life. She broke her leg at the track and the track vet didn't set it properly. When the adoption people got her, there vet had to re break and reset the leg. She wes bitten on the back, which got infected and she had to have a drain tube put in. When we got her, we were determined to love her and give her a good home-and we did just that. Both dogs lived to be 12 years old, which is pretty old for the breed. We had them for many years, and fond them to be big couch potatoes. We used to get together with other owners in a fenced in area and let them run-and how they loved to run!!
