What's your scooter's name....and why?

Post by VoodooKitty »

How can you not want to personify these adorable little guys?!?! You accessorize, customize, cover them with little piece of your personality, and protect them from the big bad world out there. They become your partner in crime as you zoom around town. They deserve a name.

So my question to you is...

What's your scooter's name? and how did "he/she" come to have that name?

Mine is Flash. I chose a red scooter for visibility, and because it seemed more "fun" than the other options. The color – plus the irony of naming a 50cc scooter after "the fastest man alive" – inspired me to name him after the superhero Flash, who wears a bright red body suit. I added the character's logo (clipped out of vinyl) to my scooter's "chest", and added little lightning-like "wings" to my matching red helmet (like the superhero has on his head covering). And since he's the fastest two-wheeled vehicle I've ever had, he's still "the scarlet speedster" in my (comic) book.

That's perfect!

I should probably answer my own question :D

I didn't so much name my scooter as much as destiny named her. Ha! Ok maybe it wasn't quite that dramatic. But I do feel that her name found her by the circumstance of the day.

The day that she was delivered was the same day my boyfriend and I had tickets to go to Red Rock Amphitheater for their summer "Films on the Rocks" series. All summer long they play movies on a big screen for 9000 people at one of the most famous amphitheaters in the world. Anyone that has been to Red Rocks knows that you earn a Red Rocks experience. You have to climb mountain trials, trek up step hills, and go up about 8 million stairs just to get inside. But once you are there you see just how special this place is. I have been to Red Rocks many time before for concerts but this was my first time going to see a movie there. It was their final movie of the summer that day and it was sold out….of course it was sold out….they were playing a Beatles movie after all :D Across the Universe was the flick for the evening. By the time the movie was over my sky blue buddy's name was secured….Lucy.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.

That day:

Bleu Belle. Why? Purely because about 15 seconds after I got it, a lady friend of mine insisted on naming it "bluebell" – probably the most emasculating name a scooter can possibly have (yes my friend is quite pretty and quite nice (except for the naming my scooter thing) which is the only reason why I would ever tolerate this)... So to save my scooter and me from such an effeminate fate, and given that my St. Tropez is French, "bluebell" became Bleu Belle, which translated from French means (roughly) "the pretty blue one". So there ya have it... do I ever call it that in real life? Hell no.

The "Mothership" in reference to another of my favorite childhood TV series "V". I arrive in the mothership, it's my center of operation and what I conquer the city with, and if need be, retreat back to base on.

My Italia got named "Puzza", which means 'stinky' in Italian. You might remember my beg for help on getting the 2 pack-a-day ashtray smell out of her. She does smell much better now...like Bounce dryer sheets. :) But "Puzza" has stuck.

"Pale Rider", 'cause it's like, white, and I like, ride it. Also 'cause it's 'Apocalypse Now' for anyone I catch messing with it.

I call mine Buddy because I have a cat by that name. I also have a cat named Scooter. Both were named long before I had a scooter named Buddy.

My Buddy is always referred to as "Buddy". Mainly because I lack imagination and am quite too lazy to come up with anything better. 8)

My Tmax is named "Ace". Mostly because I pay tennis and Ace is yellow, like a tennis ball.

Similar to me! My cat is called "Buddy" never wanted a cat actually but my girlfriend wanted one............ got rid of her and kept the cat ;-)
Fast forward eight years, my daughter who just turned three, calls the cat "Bud-Bud" so obviously the St Tropez is called "Bud-Bud" also!
We have a Friday ritual of cleaning bud-bud together, but her lack of attention to detail may see her being fired........ ;-)[/quote]

I spent over a week coming up with names for my Italia...I had finally decided on Roberto. On my first ride out I was taking a sharp corner and yelled out: Holy S Henry...hang out. Guess he liked Henry better than Roberto. :D

Mine has NO NAME. Its a machine that serves a purpose, to get me to work. If I personalize it then I would miss it if it was stolen, wrecked, etc.

My Buddy is named SheBeast after my wife cause she's small and fierce and we saw a clothing item in REI by a brand by the same name and I started calling my wife SheBeast. The Buddy is small and I always joke about how fast and powerful it is so it got the name SheBeast. My sh150 has not yet earned a name, but who knows, at some point she just may.

My Stella is just that, Stella. Due to me yelling "Stella," like Stanley from Streetcar. Although she is also called "The Mistress" by my wife, because I tend to not pay any attention to the time when tinkering.

The Blur is "Blurry"
The Honda CB350 is "Breaky" because it breaks a lot.
The Vespa VBB 150 is "Phoebe" because it's feeble
The Primavera is "Preemy"
The trailer is "Holly" because it hauls.
The Forester is "BlackBarry" because our first one was berry-colored and we're fond of a certain "Barry" from Chicago. Then that one got totalled and we got a black one.

That's funny! I was the one that suggested Bounce dryer sheets. I'm glad they worked! :D

My orange Buddy is named Little Bit. He was my first scooter, and he's so cute. He's just a little bit.

My black Buddy is named Spike, because he's spunky and Spike is a spunky name.

My MP3's name is Max. Not sure why....he just seemed like a Max.

I used to have a 79' Datsun truck that I called the Hampster, since with that little engine he had, I always thought of a little hampster running on one of those little metal wheels. My mom, didn't quite hear the name when I told her and thought I said Dumpster, so that name kinda stuck. Not really fair, I suppose, as it was the cutest little truck... :P

Well I've called mine Baby Blue (after the Bad Finger song) since I got her but looking at my little blue scoot amongst the hogs at the Rock Store this popped into my head:

Little Blue Scoot
You don't know what I got
Little Blue Scoot
You don't know what I got

Well I'm not braggin' babe so don't put me down
But I've got the fastest set of wheels in town
When something comes up to me he don't even try
Cause if it had a set of wings man I know she could fly
She's my little blue scoot
You don't know what I got
Little blue scoot
You don't know what I got

Mine is called "piglet." My friend has a big Harley and since it was too small to be a "Harley Hog", we came up with a small pig name.

My Pink Stella is Betty. Elizabeth when she's being a b&*ch, and betsy when I'm sweet talking her. Sufer dudes always call pretty girls Betty's so I figured the prettiest girl in the world (my scooter) deserved the name. I haven't named my pink Buddy, not sure why nothing has jumped out at me....

I'd not named my scooters until the Stella. Her name is Fury, as in Four Stroke Fury! Purrs like a kitten, growls like a really pissed off kitten.

The pink Buddy does have a nickname, the Pink Rocket. This makes me feel manly-er when riding it. Okay, maybe not.

My Blur SS220i's name is 'Storm Trooper'. My Buddy 50's name is 'Fiddy'. My pool cues's name is 'Old School'.

I forgot to say why.
Because the Blur looks like a George Lucas 'Storm Trooper'. After pin-striping the Buddy has a 1950's look. My pool cue has a retro theme with ebony points, 'Balabushka' veneer colors, and a brown rubber bumper.

Good scoot name... but my wife would kill me if I continually said I was riding Giada... lol

Though that being said... I am not naming my scooter... my first Buddy (the burnt orange color) would not start the day after I gave her a name. She had 7 miles when I picked her up, I had her for only 4 days. The dealer came and picked it up and after being in the shop for almost a week they still couldn't figure out what the issue was. So he just asked me to go by the shop and get another one. That's how I wound up with the two-toned black/silver Buddy.

So I am not naming my scooter, not even giving IT a gender!!
