The Kymco Yager 200i looks like #$!, but...

Post by jrsjr »

The Kymco Yager 200i looks like #$!, but... as a former Blur owner, I keep thinking. The Blur - $3499. The Yager - $3499. The Blur - 150cc Carbureted Air-Cooled. The Yager - 174.5cc Fuel Injected Liquid-Cooled. The Blur - 1.75 Gallon Gas Tank. The Yager - 2.9 Gallon gas Tank. The Blur - Amazing Flux-Capacitor rear Suspension. The Yager - Unamazing Dual Shocks. The Blur - Interesting Styling. The Yager - Anti-Theft Styling.

This is not flamebait, but dare I say it? Discuss.

Well... Since I've already got a Blur...

But yeah, I wouldn't mind a bit of a bump in CC's and/or tech.

Would it still count as a Blur if it had the Yager drivetrain? It wouldn't be too difficult to redo the suspension and place the radiator.. a little cut here, a little weld there....

Nah... That's crazy talk.

I'm gonna go with my original thought: I already own a Blur, lol.

Hrmm... You know, I do get kind of annoyed with locking the Blur down all the time. I'd get a lot of time back that I could spend on quality lolli-gaggin. Maybe I should go look at one of those.

I finally figured it out! I figured out what the Yager reminds me of: Rockbiter (Neverending Story)

Whew! Well, there it is, in all its glory. I admit, it took me a couple months to get over the initial shock, but I've seen the pix so many times that the shock has worn off. Now I'm starting to look past the, um, the anti-theft styling and look at the tech, the price, the ergonomics, and the fact that it's not made out of pure unobtanium. Also, the lack of a flux-capacitor means that the Yager houses it's gas tank under the seat so that it is a true step through.

P.S. I did not make up the expression, "anti-theft styling." I picked that phrase up from the world of motorcycling where it was applied to the early Kawasaki Vulcan 750 motorcycles. The funny thing is, folks bought those bikes because of the tech, the price, and the ergonomics. You see where I'm going with this???

P.S. I don't want to burst anybody's bubble, and please don;t slay the messenger, but there is a wild rumor out there that not every sentient being in the Universe loves the Blur's styling as much as we do. Just sayin...

I'll bet that one of the first aftermarket "kits" for this thing won't have anything to do with the engine, but instead replace the headlight and the below with a projector headlight system similar to the SYM RV250.

That would be kinda hot. Paint it black and white...

What do you guys find that is so ugly about the Kymco Yager 200i?
Its a great looking ride.
Certainly has better lines then the Buddy.

Comments I have read about the Blur:

•Seating position and saddle shape are terrible if you’re not just the right height.
•Instrumentation is so inaccurate it’s almost useless.
•Does anybody seriously like the black and orange?
•Great power for ’round town, but just not quite enough for freeway use.

The problem is that they go to so much trouble to make the front sleek looking and then throw in a plain rectangular headlight. It's almost awesome, then really ugly at the top.

This is probably not the place to bad-mouth the Blur, lol.

Yes the seat sucks, the instrument innacuracies vary bike to bike. Mine's pretty accurate (within 2mph@65), other's have reported much further off. The Grey and orange are hideous, hence the replacement of orange for black in 07 (and why I blacked out all the orange except the wheels the first week I had mine). And it's not a highway cruiser, it's a scooter. Mine's hit 85 (indicated) but I don't take it on the highway, it's not the right machine for that.

The Blur wasn't made for speed; they're made for handling.

All that aside, I think the general point jrsjr and I are making is that the Yager has everything we'd like in the class except for the face only a mother could love. We're just spoiled by the Blur's swingarm suspension, but the Yager's rear dualies are in line with the higher performance chastises out there.

the main quote you should take home about the blur is the handling and the ride is so fantastic, you'll think twice about riding anything else...

You guys are killing me. The Yager isn't ugly at all. Granted the Blur is better looking but the Yager has it's good points too. Fuel injected and liquid cooled, doesn't get any better than that. At least with the new Blur we get the FI.

Am I nuts or are you comparing a scooter presently in production to one that isn't?

They don't make the Blur 150 anymore.

Now, compare the Yager to the ss220i. Proceed.

This thread is from 2009. Somebody above resurrected it. This is why it's a good idea to read through a thread before weighing in with snarky remarks.
