NSR, what I've been up to MCR

Post by ScooterTrash »

The reason I haven't been around here much (still have the buddy)

Picked up a nighthawk 650 for $100. it's in pieces but he had them all and threw in a bunch of extras.

Day 1
Image

Image

Image

Day 2
got the frame cut and some of the welds ground off.
Image

Image

Day 3
Got the top bars bent and tacked in to place
Ride height adjusted
Image
Bars bent and tacked in

Day 4
Welded the top bars, need 1 freaking bolt to move on and no one has it...

ST this is awesome! $100 well spent for sure :) I am so envious of people who know how to do this stuff. Can't wait to see it progress.

Good progress today, finished the rigid tail.

Built the bottom bars, finished the mount on the gear side. Got everything ground smooth and threw some paint on temporarily. Soon as I get a tire the fender and seat will be done

Unless I'm missing something, that's going to be a really harsh ride. It'll look sweet for a shafty 650cc bobber... but how are you going to cushion your tush?!

I see quite a few of the hard tails with the sprung seats around here and they're getting more and more popular again. Have to say they are my favorite style of motorbike.

Potholes are everywhere  talked to a 65 year old man riding cross country on a hard tail the other day. He is a bad ass

They actually have air bags for seats and or mini coilovers for the seats

I'd never seen a pothole 4 layers of pavement deep until I visited Richmond a few years back. Blew my mind.

Some folks say that riding with very different tread patterns cause instability and a less than ideal ride.

I've ridden on different (but similar) tread patterns, too. It's very common on the Vespa LX, because there used to only be a couple choices for the odd-sized 11" front. No negative effects that I could tell.

Thats usually the people who switch to a cheaper tire on one of them. There are differences but oh well.

I love how this bike is coming along! I am quite envious.

About the fender, personally I would just round it out rather than have the point. But that's just me - I tend to like simpler design. My thoughts are that a few years down the road simpler designs will still look cool whereas more ornate ones can become dated. Kind of like clothing designs - you can still wear simple a few years later.

I agree with Skootz. I like the idea of the rounded end more than the pointed end of the fender.

Plus, if you actually ride it regularly, somebody's bound to lean on the point and ruin it for you. Also, is that fender long enough to keep the road water off your back?

Yeah, I agree on the rounded fender. the pointed one just isn't doing it for me.... Maybe its the idea of something pointy aimed at the tire. ;)
