PICS of my Blur 220i

Post by Bergerbot »

Hey everyone. I finally bought a Blur after 9 months of playing with them. The local dealer, where I now work, got 2 of them in last August and I was able to put the first 200miles on the white one. I came from a Kymco Super 9 LC and I fell in love with the bike immediately. I ended up buying the only Gun Metal Blur 220 in the state and I don't care :-). However, since I work for a scooter dealership, you better believe I will post more pics and videos about this scoot.

Here are some pictures of my bike as it stands. I deleted the rear fender, but kept the mount for now. I added 3 red LED light kits with a switch, I removed the DOT turn signals and hooked up the OEM turn signals. Then I painted the chrome back flat black and added amber bulbs. Took off the front reflectors and I'm adding reflective rim tape soon. I will be painting the tail lights and head light soon as well. The photos are from most recent to oldest.

Great pics! Take some action shots... finding pics of (non-Asian) people actually riding the Blur are virtually nonexistent on the Net.

I love, love, love that light placement. I wonder what red would look like under my white blur.

If it wasn't already red there, I think a blueish color would look pretty cool too.

But that red with your shade is pretty sweet!

Blue for comparison

Post by davelhunter »

Here are some pics with Blue led's for comparison. I just hit the 1,000 mile mark on the odometer last week and I hit 84 mph (indicated) on flat ground. The motor feels like it is getting faster!

Does hooking these lights up void some of your warranty coverage?

I don't think so. I would not worry about it.

But the cops won't like the blue lights one little bit. The killjoys.

I like the LEDs as well.

I recently found out that in Georgia, and I think Alabama as well, the lights are not legal while moving. Parked OK, in motion, no. Kinda kills the fun for me, as well as the practical aspect of being seen in the dark.

Found this on "yahoo answers." Was trying to find vehicle code to see if colors matter and whether it can be on while running. Guy was asking about green underglow.

"According to the California Vehicle Code 25950, the only color allowed that is visible from the rear of the vehicle is red. Hence, installing green lights that emit to and are visible from the rear would be considered illegal.

There are three sections in the CA Vehicle Codes that pertain to lights on a vehicle:
Section 25950 - http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc25950.htm
Section 25951 - http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc25951.htm
Section 24255 - http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc24255.htm

The key is the candela rating. If the lights are less than 0.05 candela per square inch, you should be okay. Most LED lights are under that amount. Get the technical specs of what you are buying or ask the manufacturer.

If your lights will be above 0.05 candela, then there is still a way to do this and be legal. The key is whether the light is direct or diffused. See the following section for this.
Section 25400 - http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc25400.htm

Now, while you would technically be legal. You have to remember that post police officers can't memorize the full vehicle code nor will they enforce it perfectly. Having green lights on the back will likely be incorrectly deemed illegal and you'll probably get a ticket. You'll likely be able to get the ticket thrown out once you show the vehicle codes noted above but do you really want to go through that hassle.

My recommendation is to use red lights in the back. They would increase your visibility and actually still accentuate the bike. Remember, green and red are complimentary colors.
