[NSR] What do you do for fun?
The "What do you do for work?" thread posed a second question, which tends to get overlooked in the answers lately (what you wish you were doing). I'd like to pose a similar question: What do you do for fun?
Yeah, I reset passwords and reboot computers for pay, but that's less interesting (to me) than what I do for play. When I'm not at work, not sleeping, and not scooting, I make comics. Nothing published (unless you count a couple of 24-hour challenges I posted online a few years ago, both of questionable quality and taste), and nothing likely to be published any time soon, but I write and illustrate comics. I'm currently doing some coloring and lettering for a friend's project, and I'm working on an autobiographic novel.
What about you?

Well my work is fun although exhausting
When I'm not having fun at work then I go for walks, ride one of my bicycles,I like camping although I only went once this year. I also read quite a bit and I'll tinker with just about anything mechanical that I can afford to break
I also try to send as much time as possible with my family and the few folks in my life I would call real friends. When schools ins ession I don't spend nearly enough time with them and so during the summers I try to make up for that.

- I go for walks with my wife and our dog.
We watch movies on weekends (have an OK home theater set-up in the basement)
I like to read.
I actually enjoy working around the yard.
I play PC games and just rebuilt my rig (Phenom II X4 965 BE, EVGA GTX 460 1 GB GPU, 8 GB of performance RAM etc etc...)

Well, theater is a career, passion and a money pit that sucks in my entire family so you have to love it and have fun at it in order to just "do" it. Riding is my way of shoving non-work related passion into my everyday.
BUT, when I do get an occasional moment away from shows and from going back to school to get more certifications to let me work on more shows, I enjoy restoring and shooting Curio and Relic firearms. I have a *huge* passion for Soviet era weapons as well as the more quirky designs from the 1950's and '30's. You can keep your "tacti-cool" Call-Of-Duty plastic stuff: I'm more for the history and reason behind it. Yes, it's a total nerd approach to the sport but that's kind of fitting for me

I can't live without golf, photography or cycling. I'm also an avid inline skater and was an avid tennis player for over 40 years but eventually developed knee problems from all the years of chasing down drop shots - so golf, inline and cycling it is these days.
The car is one of three that I purchased in order to have quality father/son time at the track. The heli is new so I'm still learning with that. I have way too many hobbies.
Now if I could only find a way to get that heli and it's transmitter on my Stella I'd be set.

Play lacrosse (and other sports, but not on the same level), read, write, BBQ, run around like a three-year-old with my three-year-old son, coach, ride scooters, eat (more than I should), camp, swim, go to the "cinema" with my wife (particularly like Ridley Scott, Guy Ritchie, and Christopher Nolan), watch sports, camp, mountain bike, swim, art exhibits (not as often as I'd like), hang out with family, and spend too much time on the computer.

I ride one of my bikes, read currently on book 2 of the Song of Fire and Ice series by G.R.R. Martin, I write although not as much as I used to since I left Chicago, Florida just doesn't inspire me the way that city did. I spend a bit too much time playing xbox (if you ask my lady) MIZTA G is my gamertag.
I used to be heavily involved w/ improv theater in Chicago, studied and performed it for years-but again SW Florida not exactly the hot bed for that kind of stuff. Actually the most fun I have is wishing I was out of this state!
Everything else is just to keep my mind off of that.

Would like to scoot more.
Would like to shoot more. (modern stuff, but I would love to collect some pieces like neo. I would like some WW2 stuff. Maybe an M1 from CMP. I need a gun rack for my scoot to go to the range...lol.
My son starts middle school this year and my daughter starts high school. Its already busy and school does not start for a couple more weeks. But every camp does.
Having our back deck completely rebuilt so when its done, I hope to be grilling and drinking more. (grilling as heat permits, drinking as mental state resulting from teenagers requires)

Ah good ol' hobbies.. I enjoy the outdoors. I fish and hunt often (North Dakota's past time) shooting for fun, golf (terribly), movies and TV make me laugh, and I enjoy photography very much. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mitchburdick/ feel free to tool around in my photostream for awhile. You can catch a few glimpses of some fish, guns, and Nort' Dakota sunsets.
You can also see me in this picture with a crawfish we wrangled up while fishing the river, not long after wrecking my brother's bike as you may be able to tell

Then you're probably lusting after one of these: Not sure of the importer but we know it belonged to a Jewish soldier: Had a Star of David and a phrase in Yiddish carved into the stock underneath the receiver. Was looking at buying it myself, but in it's impeccable condition and at a price of $2400 there was no way I could justify the cost even when I was fully employedgunsntexas wrote:Would like to scoot more.

Very nice. Exactly what I want. But that's half a Stella!

Half a Stella? In Arizona, that can get me an ENTIRE used Stella plus extra chrome bits! I'm too inherently frugal to have impulse purchases like that, and I suppose that's a good thing. If I actually had the disposable income and didn't have to STRONGLY think about every purchase I made, there'd be more emphasis on "disposable".

I love 4H, the kids that participate really give me a sense of hope for this country. We just had our local 4H fair, what a blast! We won the silent auction for a huge turkey and three good look'n chickens. They're in the freezer now.viney266 wrote:

Ya mean, besides obsessing over scooters and libraries?
I like reading books, watching movies, being a beer snob, going to see rock n roll bands play shows, talking to strangers on the internet, hanging out with my cat Rudie, going to art galleries & museums, going out to eat, and hanging out in the park.

I like to derp around on reddit, and the interwebs in general. I do very amateur photography, but I have sold a few pix and had someone ask to use mine in an art gallery, which was cool. I like to play MW2/Blops on my xbox. Travel, both domestic and international. My next trip Las Vegas and then Vietnam. I also play poker ... some might say I play well, some might say I'm lucky. But it's fun. When I'm not doing that, I train a korean martial art and sometimes fly airplanes (usually a cessna 152 aerobat - VFR/IFR run o' the mill single engine / land ... nothing special).

Now that is amazing; I've never hiked but I'd love to add that to my long list of outdoor activities. Question, do they cut/create the trail or is it formed by a constant flow or hikers that have passed that way?Lil Buddy wrote:I hike and climb.

National and state parks typically have trail systems that are established and maintained by the staff. The goal is to keep the damage caused by hiker after hiker contained to just those strips, and the foot traffic usually does a pretty good job of keeping them free of vegetation. Some parks have areas designated for off-trail hiking (not advised for the inexperienced), where the rule is the opposite: each hiker taking a different route, so trails don't form and the whole territory remains in its natural state.

I'm diggin' the 5-fingers. The most I've run in my Vibram KSO's is about 11 miles. I did the Marine Corp Marathon back in 2009 and doing it again this year (late October). If you ever get a chance, come to DC for the MCM... everything about it is incredible. The crowds, the fans, the Marines running everything and cheering you on, the bands, the scenery, it's amazing. I'm usually working the marathon most years in EMS logistics on the Virginia side, so let me know if you ever sign up to run it.trukntommy wrote:I run for fun. A lot quicker than running it.
@ Lil Buddy... those are incredible pictures.. Is that Mt. Rainier? A guided summit trip to Rainier is on my bucket list. Pictures don't do any justice to how big that mountain is.

I did just take out my grandfathers battlefield pick up Walther P38. Shot great for sitting in an attic since the end of WWII.
