Sadly I come with bad news today

Post by Lokky »

Today LunaP got hit by a car while on her buddy :(

She was a block away from home and somebody blew through a stop sign from a minor road and broadsided her. I rode by the location tonight on the way home and there is pieces of buddy thrown as far as ~45 feet.
The guy stopped and admitted fault, there is a witness who testified to the police and I may have found a second one. Her family already contacted a lawyer.

Now, the good news is that her helmet (best birthday present I ever bought someone) and her newly arrived armored jacket saved her life. Her upper body got away with bruising on the elbows and a broken clavicle, plus some road rash where the gloves didn't hold up.
The bad is that her left leg is severely fractured. She was in surgery today, and more surgery is scheduled for Sunday and Tuesday. There is hope of recovery but we are not out of the danger zone yet and she may lose it if things take a turn for the worse.

Please send your positive vibrations her way.

I'm going to side with BuddyR, Luna is in the hands of experts, she will be just fine! Thoughts and good vibes in her direction.
You on the other hand have to watch yourself, you'll be of no help to her if you let yourself run down in the mean time........

How awful. I'm sorry that she is so injured and that her scoot was destroyed.

I'm sure both her and a replacement will be good as new for summer.

After the surgeries, I have some liniments that I would be happy to send a batch your way. I use them all the time in martial arts to heal bruises and broken bones faster. I'll pm a reminder in a few weeks.

Speedy recovery and good vibes to both of you.

Thoughts, prayers and best wishes. She always seemed like a very nice person and the guy who hit her had better have good insurance or the karmic wheel will be running over him. Wishing a speedy recovery and her doctors many flashes of brilliance.

Omigosh! Prayers coming her way now.

Let me add one more request for frequent updates.

Tell her congratulations. She is now officially a member of the club. Thankfully my own wipeouts never netted me more than scrapes and bruises.

Sending goodness her way! I hope she heals quickly, has excellent doctors, and really good pain meds. And that she is able to get right back up on a new scoot when she's ready (if she wants to, of course).

When people ask me why I wear a full-face helmet, gloves, and an armored jacket, I point to stories like this as to why. They save lives.

I'm not a religious fellow, so instead I'll say that I'm sure the doctors will be able to help out, and that their job is made a lot less complicated by only needing to concentrate on the leg, rather than the huge list of injuries if she hadn't been wearing her gear. Medical science is incredible nowadays, and she'll be back on her feet in no time.

Thank you for the good wishes everybody, I have let her know you are all thinking of her and it has given her a huge smile.
Her spirits have been good, it may be the pain meds helping but she's incredibly positive about this whole situation, while also not ignoring the possibility of losing the leg (she asked the doctor about this directly, no bullshit).
Last night the pulse in her leg was weak and this worried the doctor but today it came back strong. She can wiggle her toes and has sensitivity to touch, all great signs that point to the best outcome.
Tomorrow morning if the tissue on her leg hasn't gone necrotic (it's currently in a vacuum system to keep it sterile) they will be inserting a metal rod to keep the bones in place.

I have yet to be able to see her bike, they won't release it to anybody but her unless we get a notarized note so it will have to wait till the hospital notary is back on Monday. However from last night's scene I have little hope that it will be salvageable.

Also we are in the process of setting up something so people can donate to help her get through these tough times as she still has to pay her bills including the payment on her bike until the insurance companies settle the deal.

holy cow the leg sounds bad off. worse then "badly fractured." hope it all turns out well

forget looking forward to scooting again. just walking will be a nice goal. although scooting has been known to be done by those with a "bad" leg. and yours is going to be a-ok i am sure! :D

but for now just keep enjoying those pain meds and get all the treatment possible :)

Take care of yourself, so you can help take care of her.

It sounds like she's got a long journey of recovery ahead of her, but one way or another, I'm sure she'll be up and around again if she's really determined to get there.

If she needs a wheelchair but has trouble getting one due to cost/insurance issues, let me know. I can put you in touch with an organization (my friend used to run it) that might be able to help.

Thanks!
I have contacted scooter-relief late last night but have not heard back from them yet.
As soon as it is set up I will post about it and make a post on MV as well.

A little humorous side story: The cop remarked how her airbag deployed and saved her. We were all completely confused as to what he was talking about.
Turns out that he mistook her Tucano lap cover for some kind of motorcycle airbag!

This is awful... So glad she was geared up! Luna is in my prayers; best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery.

Check out smartypig as another potential "relief fund" option... It's free to set up an account and you can share your goal with friends who can help you by making contributions.

hang in there and please let us know how things progress.

I just read about your post, and am horrified that she is having to go through this.

Once she is up and around, painful as it might be, encourage her to move around as much as the doctor(s) and physical therapist recommend. She will regain the most mobility, and hopefully will be in less pain much more quickly.

The two of you will be in my thoughts. :(
