Hard to shift

Post by Theodlucas »

It is getting harder and harder to rotate the twist grip shifter on my 2012 Stella 4 stroke. It is actually painful because of injuries to my left hand. Is there a way to loosen or lubricate the shifting mechanism? Thanks!

Could it be the cables? You might try replacing them.
Take the cover off of the shift box and see if there's anything there. I'd hate to think that it's the cruciform.

That sounds like cables fraying or collecting dirt, or the shifter handle needing greased where it pivots on the handlebars. Could even be something binding up in the box where the up and down shift cables turn the gear selector. Cruciform usually causes sloppy shifts, or it pops out of gear.

I would pull the shifter cables out and look at them, clean them if they need it, regrease, and replace or reinstall.
"Stella" is Latin for "use threadlocker on all fasteners"
