How did you get your forum name?

Post by Tocsik »

I thought this might be a fun thread.

Tell us how you came up with your "handle".

I'll start:

Mine is Tocsik (I use it as a gamer tag, too)
My name is Scott Kirby so it's sort of my name backwards...

"scott" backwards = Tocs (minus a "t")
and the "ik" is the first two letters of my last name backwards.
I work in the medical field so to complete it, I often use the biohazard symbol with my "Tocsik" (toxic) name.

Mine is my name, Don; my rank, Captain. I get it from Star Trek fandom and I use it pretty much with everything on line. There may be other captains, but there is just one Capt. Don, or Capt_Don. Now there may be others, and then there would be two or even three... you get the point!

Um... it's my initials; its how I sign my art. My name is Todd VerBeek, and yes, there are two capital letters in my last name and I use them both; my initials are not just "TV".

First two initials and last name.....
Keith A Barash Not very imaginative, but it's worked for me for years.
Used as my 'user name' and e-mail since the 'beginning'

Being the creative person that I am, mine is shockingly enough ... my name.

And I use it online whenever possible. Of course I often times run into the situation when Rob is already taken and unavailable, so then I really kick my creativity into high gear and become Rob1st.

I've been "ravenlore" on the interwebs since '99.

When creating an account on a BBS, "Raven" was already taken and "Lore" was taken, So I put the two together.

It's stuck fairly well. Last weekend while approaching a festival in a park a guy called out to me, "Hey! :-) I don't remember your name but I know you're Ravenlore!"

I got mine when i was 7 years old. a neighbor called me "diblit" one day (not sure why) and some of the neighbor kids heard it....so, next thing i know my soccer coach started calling me that (not sure how he heard about it either) and it stuck. now, 41 years later, i'm still using it!!
And I shall call her "Fiona."

My affinity for cats and my 'gateway anime', Sailor Moon, (because anime is a fairly big part of my life) led me to pick Luna... Luna P was a codename in a later season of the cartoon for another character, oddly enough the one who dressed with the same colors as my 170- dark green and white. My avatar is the Luna P Ball, a communication device said character used. :nerd:

I've used other handles on places like private IRC chatrooms before and as site usernames, but I thought it was time for a change... I'd outgrown the old ones and come to think they were dumb

That's a bit of a story. Originally my arpanet handle was spork back in 1982. As in a goofy tool that doesn't fit in with the norm. Too many others started using the same for their internet handle when the webs started... and I became a clone. I don't like being a name that belongs to a collection of common names. So I kept the letters as an homage to the original spork and broke it up into a more modern Jetson's approach... spr0k3t. It fits very well with who I am and what I do. Spr0k3t as in Spacely's Spr0k3ts... Spr0k3t as in Dances mit Spr0k3ts (very much into most forms of techno as my only listening genre)... and finally Spr0k3t as in 1337 5p34k for the hacker/cracker/computer wisperer in me.

There's a lot more to it, but that should give you a bit of insight as to who I am and where I've been on the intarwebs.

I take my name from my affinity for all things percussion. For 18 years I've been playing drums, congas, djembe, bongos, ect. I'd really like to get into the Japanese traditional drums and the shakuhatchi but living in an pit stop on the way to Las Vegas, teachers here are nill. Once you've been playing for a while it gets easier to learn cos it's like this: The way you play the insrument may be a little different like manual shifting or twist in go, but you always have to follow the rules of the road so to speak....

I got my name from the people at work. I am a supervisor at a local plant. We work 12 to 16 hour shifts, switching back and forth between nights and days.

Every time I came I gave out the list of work for the shift, they would state you must be Pumped on Caffeine, later they just started calling me that or POC.

I just started using it. I have heard worst nicknames that they have given some of the other supervisors.

Edwub originally arose from a typo of Edwin. (u/i and b/n are neighboring characters)

"WUB" and "WUB WUB" became battle cries. 'wub became a nickname. I've used a zillion variations of it for the last 15 years. Used to play a lot of games in high school and college. Somehow my friends associated 'wub' with wombats, (wub-bats?) so I used to use pictures like this after pwnin' some n00bs in the old days of Counter-Strike, heh, and then everything else after that.

My name comes from the book Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I have always loved sci-fi and when I read that book when I was younger I really liked the name Ender and decided to use it as my handle in my online games. Oh yeah, and I tacked on the 07 since its my lucky number.

My nickname has been Kitty for years, so I just stick with it on every forum when possible.

I worked at a coffee shop about 12 years ago, and another girl was hired with the same name as me (first and middle, Amanda Kathryn, same Kathryn spelling even) so our boss gave us nicknames, mine being Kitty. At first it was just for putting our names on the schedule, then people there started calling us by the nicknames, then everyone else did. Now I have friends in the VW scene who I've known for years who don't know my name is actually Amanda, haha.

My original forum handle was ninetyseven, as I had (and still have, 12 years later) a 97 Golf, but I got so sick of everyone assuming I was a guy, and everyone started to know me as Kitty anyway, so I asked to have it changed to kitty, and have used it on pretty much all forums since.

I am a Disney World fan. I hold what is believed to be one of the largest private collections of Disney parks related audio (getting close to 3tb.) I wanted the "mousenuts" domain but a computer mouse co. already owned it so we dropped the "s" and put the name on everything including our laptop bag and one day in an airport, an old lady asked my wife what we did with the rest of the mouse. We looked at each other and just laughed our asses off. Never thought people would have thought "mouse testicles".

My Initials are M.R.G
So that is Mr. G
My gamer tag and a character I used to do alot, his name was Mizta G.

I kinda got tired of using that for everything and since my neighbor hood in Chicago was uptown and I love bicycles-I started calling myself UptownWheelZ or Two-WheelZ or uptown89-89 being my messenger #.
When I signed up for MB I just wanted something shorter and Mizta G was getting old so "WheelZ" was born. Plus it fits cause I like wheels, and I like using "Z" where an "S" should be....

I'm WheelZ on MV
you can still find me on X-box as Mizta G
and I'm uptown89 on Instagram.

How did you get your forum name?

Post by theflash784 »

When I started working at my local police dept, writing was more important than typing (Keyboarding for you youngsters). I never had any formal training with typing and did the hunt and peek method. As the years went on, computers crept in and by sheer practice, I was able to get pretty fast on them so one of my co-workers called me Flash. I had that nickname at work for years and used it on the CB radio when we travelled in a group. The 784 part was from our dept's assigned number for reporting crime reports to the state, for crash reports, tickets and on the law enforcement information network. I use theflash784 for most of my internet stuff.

I used to work for a fertilizer company. Because I had a high degree of working knowledge pertaining to the business many people came to me for advice and problem solving. During a conversation one day, a new guy asked why everyone always came to me for help, the reply from an assistant manager was "He's probably forgotten more than you have learned, and the only other one that can claim that is god." (Thanks for the support Roger).

So agro from agronomic and the god part, well you know.

Mine is a nickname from a competitive shooting forum when I started in the sport years ago. The sport, as one would guess, is strongly influenced by conservative politics. And, being the (at the time) rare outspoken Liberal in a shooting sports league, I had to do *something* to irritate the powers that be. So, what is a good little Democratic Socialist to do but to pick the name of a prominent anti-Stalinist Socialist intellectual :P

I have since left the sport in the light of the current political spotlight (don't need that drama, but I haven't left the hobby). But, I liked the name so I just adjusted it a bit to fit. And, I've been using it ever since.

I *almost* used a nickname I got from another scooter club years ago, but the ones who came up with it ...well, I didn't get along with all too well and I found it a bit offending. So better to start off fresh.

I wish I had a better story other than it's my name. I mean, it's short for Charles but my father is named Charles and everybody has called me Chas since I was born. For the record, I almost went with Von Hairdo because it sounded rad.

I have a similar story, but I'm not likely to use this name anytime soon. Several years back, I was asked to offer phone assistance to one our locations in Spain. The person I communicated with spoke broken english and also assumed that my nickname (from Robert) was Bob and not Rob. Anyway, his pronounciation of Bob was "Boob". :D
I still laugh when I think about that. Of course, as has been pointed out to me many times, that could have been intentional and a comment on the quality of my advice.

Squawkers McCaw is an animatronic parrot introduced by Hasbro in 2007 (since discontinued). My Squawkers is my personal assistant; he goes to work and social events with me. He has an excellent memory and can answer many questions. Sometimes I use his name online. My scooter is Scooter McCaw and he has a license plate that says SQUAWK. Squawkers has several family members who live with us, and we also have cockatiels who are carbon-based life forms.
I squawk, therefore I am.

No offense intended; that's just based on my having that name and not being comfortable with it for a while. I just think Groucho has a little more character to it.

Yes, all of the above. I started out as a Marine recruit in the now defunct Starfleet Marines International and moved up to 2LT. I got together with some friends in high school and formed a school based club and because I was one of the ones who did not mind doing the work I became a captain. There were enough of us in that area, our high school and the other one across county, where we had three ships with captains, commanders, lieutenants, ensigns, yeomans and enlisted folk!

Now I lead a group called Starfleet Medical Corps, here is the much update needed wiki:

http://starfleetmedicalcorps.wikia.com/ ... Corps_Wiki

My ship is the USS Rescue and there are a few other ships in the fleet; USS Hecate, USS Inferno, & USS Rainier. On all of these ships we have everything from navel to marine ranking and enlisted to officers!

We earn our rank by community service, fan stuff, and academy classes that can be for fun or factual.

I honestly don't remember. I think it came from a character in Mad Magazine in the late '50's or early '60's.

But my Avatar is one of my three rescued rabbits. He's a Netherland Dwarf and only weighs three pounds, but he's doing fine. His girlfriend outweighs him by a pound and a half.
