Um, a Hello Kitty scooter....

Post by mhardgrove »

So I'm bored, high, and searching the vastness that is this internet, I came across a Hello Kitty PGO scooter.

It might sell ok to young girls.
but they would sell more if they stayed true to Hello Kitty's colors.

Fender did a Hello Kitty guitar and it sold out in 3 months.

Quote taken from the PGO site (translations are to funny)
PGO just cooperate with SANRIO CO., LTD to produce 699 units of J Bubu Hello Kitty version limited for Taiwan's market only. All the Hello Kitty Fans are crazy to got it.

No need to apologize.
But PGO should.
As if scooters don't already have a rep for "wussiness".

Eh, I can't claim to be a fan. I've seen LX150s with more appropriate color schemes and an overall more cohesive theme to them.

I am neither an artist nor a graphic designer, but this limited edition looks almost as phoned-in as the Lemonhead Buddy.

I'll have to dig around for a pic of the last LX I saw; a local rider loves HK and was posing with it.

EDIT: Found it. She's blocking the side decals, but it has HK on the side cowls as well. Not sure if it was a dealer special or a Vespa USA release.

There are exceptions to every rule, but my thoughts are that it might tend to draw people to riding scooters that perhaps should not be riding...meaning that they may not take seriously the dangers presented when you are on two wheels, because "Oh it's so cute!"

Again, apologies to persephonelily...this comment is not directed at YOU. You started riding a scooter that didn't look like that, so you obviously are not in this category. And I realize there are others who already ride that might like that...my comment is NOT directed at them.

Enough disclaimers? :P

The Hello Kitty Bubu is for the Taiwan market only, so I don't see it enticing anyone into scootering who doesn't understand what that entails.

You guys crack me up. My scooter started out plain and then got a Hello Kitty stormtrooper decal on the front. I wanted to add a couple to the sides, too, but can't find the perfect ones.

Everyone has their thing. I don't judge. Lemonhead might be the rockin'est thing to someone!

We get race-replica Aprilia 50SRs and Ducati-dressed Malagutis.

I agree.

But my problem with bot these things is exactly what az_slynch said... I don't dislike the theme, so much as how the theme has been expressed in the product. The HK Bubu is... well, it's nowhere near as cute as it should be, they could do better. And the Lemonhead Buddy could've been better done also. I think the first and biggest mistake there was making it primarily white, with yellow accents... I think it would look more aesthetically pleasing (not to mention more Lemonhead-ish) had it been the other way around (yellow, with white seat and rims). The stickerings on it are debatable, so I digress.
