2008 Buddy aka BuBu

Post by pcbikedude »

I re-visited PGO's (Taiwan) website and noticed that it has changed. http://english.pgo.com.tw/product_character.asp?id=28 The new models were there.

No real big change for the BuBu...er Buddy. The seat looks different and the colors are interesting. But the BuBu badging is weird. My BuBu???!!!

Some other of the models have changed. Nothing spectacular just interesting.

that badge / sticker doesnt look like it was on the scoot. it looks like someone just paint-pasted the graphic on... the lighting is all screwy.

Yeah, the cutesy My BuBu stuff is how they've always badged & marketed the scoot in Taiwan, only it's now become even bigger and more obnoxious.

Seen the old commercial?

the BuBu name could be bad for a female to show off the scoot ... "Do you want to see my BuBu?"

So I guess the entire Buddy family didn't receive the bigger headlight?

It would appear not.

Now the badging on the pink BuBu is just over-the-top.

I can't take this anymore! I own a 14 year-old-chick's bike  . If I can't get that image of that dumb video out of my head, Eric, I may have to give my scooter to my daughter!

What planet do they come from?

It is comforting to know that our scoots are "clean for the erarth."
I wonder how much shipping we pay to get our scoots to earth from Erarth?

The Erarthians sure do have bad taste in graphics don't you think?

Apparently, this seat is available on the Asian models because it reduces the height by a couple inches. Wouldn't take too much to reshape a Buddy seat to resemble that (plus a new seat is only $79) but it'd be nice if they offered it here as an option or sold it separately.

And the grey/black 2-tone seat, too, please!

Front slider/axle

Post by mattgordon »

Interesting that the Taiwan (home) market BuBu shown shows the front axle BEHIND or trailing the fork slider, while the USA market Buddy's have a LEADING axle design where the axle is in front of the slider.

My Rattler Buck Ten has the trailing axle like the BuBu. My wife's SI has the leading axle.

Wonder why the differences? It affects the wheelbase, by a bit. Maybe an inch, inch and a half.

The USA models would essentially have a bit longer wheelbase, making for less "twitchy" or slower steering perhaps?

I'm just being curious out loud...

Uh... Maybe some kind of DOT requirement for vehicles 125cc and up? Wild guess.

I curious about the new Kymco (Taiwan) models. Gone are the People 150 & 250's. The are replaced by the S models which are UGLY.

The Grand Vista (Dink), which my daughter says looks like a snowmobile, now is available in 125cc. Who knows what Kymco USA will decide to bring in.

The People S models are already on the KymcoUSA site, but the old models are still there, too. I'm not a big fan of those new headlights.

Even if they get rid of the old models, the Kymco product line seems a bit... redundant. And possibly confusing for people just entering the scooter market.

Wonder if these are made on mainland China, like the less-than-impressive Agility?

If Genuine were to offer a good (and good-looking) 200/250, Kymco might be in a lot of trouble.

The picture above also appears to have the 12" wheels. Will this be one of the new features for 2008?

the Bubu and Buddy are the same scooter

PGO makes both scooters.

Genuine rebadges them and sells them here in the US.

there are possibly some other subtle differences. I rented a bubu in Hawaii last winter and it seemed to have some even cheaper looking accents. It was a 50cc, totally abused, probably dropped dozens of times, but it was a lil champ.

May have stumbled onto something on this site. The t-rex 150 is 7.7 kw @7500. the buddy 125 is t7.1 kw @7250. PGO can't have too many engines so this could be the buddy continental series engine. Can anyone convert the metric numbers to hp . 5 bud 7

thanks coopdway for the info. 25 extra c.c.'s will make a difference worth waiting for in the international series.
