Changed my gear oil

Post by dkw12002 »

Nice day today so I decided to change the gear oil on the Roughhouse at 378 miles. I actually got 100 ml out of it, so that's how much I put back. The oil looked pristine. Having changed Vespa gear oil where it is a pain to get to the drain and it tends to run down on your tire, this was a piece of cake. I definitely won't be changing gear oil again any time soon though. I recently owned a Metropolitan scooter that after 7 years had never had the gear oil changed. Now THAT had some dirty gear oil but the transmission was working just fine. The reason the owner never changed it? There is nothing in the Metro owner's manual that mentions gear oil and he didn't know there was gear oil.

My Ruckus (same as Metro motor) manual also does not state when to change gear oil. I changed it at 200 miles, and will do so every 2000. I know many who had not changed it up to 5000, still without any problems--it's a Honda :D
