Stella losing power at the top of the power band.

Post by carlmomberger »

I bought a used 2008 stella a few weeks ago. When i am at the top of 2nd and 3rd gear, the power just cuts out and i shift and it's better. Between 48-50 mph, the power cuts and sometimes a backfire is present. Is this the vapor lock people talk about? anyone know that the issue could be? besides this the bike runs like a sheer dream.

Sounds like it is going lean at the top.

Is it 100% stock?
A low restriction air filter or free flowing exaust without jetting changes will display this behavour.
If stock, then the main jet may be obstructed a bit in which case it should just need a thorough cleaning.

Also, with the tank at about half full, ride it with the cap just sitting on the fill hole as opposed to tightened.
This is to verify the vent hole in the cap is not obstructed.....if power is restored, a new cap (vented) is in order.
