glovebox organizer

Post by robtaylor »

ok i couldn't wait before getting my sewing machine so i went ahead and made a "prototype" by hand (the stitching looks awful) but here are a few pics of the organizer which basically consists of a peice of fabric with 2 pockets sewn on and 1 cup holder sewn on. one pocket for my phone has a fleece lining the other one for keys has a velcro closure on it.

this is what is looks like layed flat on the floor

Image

this is more what it would look like velcroed into the buddy glove compartment...
Image

i'll post pics of it inside the buddy when the sun is shining.

AWESOME! I'm going to add the pics to your post for this one so they don't need linking.

There's a scooter crafts thread on the craftster.org forums. They'd go crazy for this. Several scooterist members and lovers over there. (The thread's years old and has kind of died because it went too far off topic several times. I got reprimanded for dispensing too much scooter-buying advice and not enough crafty content. Heh.)

If you seriously want to sell them, you could have a whole cottage industry going before long. Have you seen Crystal's work over at scooterseatcovers.com?

What colors will be available?

What size cup does the drink holder accomodate?

Great idea....better get a patent pending on this.

these are all great questions, the cup size now will accomidate a 32 oz. cup with no problem. i was think of attatching elastic to it for smaller cups to fit more snugly. colors will more than likely be custom, i made this with a heavy "duck cloth" cotton (with limited color options)but i can see it made from several materials. i am looking for cloth to match pink and italia buddys right now.

Good idea with the elastic for the cup OR could there be a velcro strip that could expand or shorten depending on cup size?

Or black main fabric with trims of the various Buddy colors?

yeah i may have to borrow my mother in law's machine and get started on these
i was thinking in custom colors and with all the velcro to install it maybe $30.00
if you are still interested in one please send me an e-mail robonz23@yahoo.com and give me your color choices and any special requests for pockets, cup holder, etc.

Now just what the heck are we talking about here? Cup sizes? black with trim...is that lace trim? :goofy:

scratching the inside of the glove compartment hadn't really been a big concern of mine, but the cloth is secured to the glovebox with velcroso there isn't a lot of movement. i could always back one with fleece for you but it'd still need the velcro sewn onto it.

Oh, it goes on the inside? Nevermind...I was a bit confused. I was thinking it went on the outside because of the cup holder. You're right, scratching the inside of the glovebox would be no biggie.

Thanks for clarifying.
Have a great day!

Yeah, it looks great! I haven't had a chance to install it yet, the weather's been crap. (I haven't ridden in over a week either.)

As soon as I get it installed I'll post some picks.

The cup holder goes in the biggest part of the glove box--the left. It looks like the right when you look at it "head-on" or on the floor. The front of the organizer faces out to the front of the scooter.

Is that clear as mud?

Oh- I think I get it- so it attaches not to the steering column side but the side that is closest to your knees? Gotcha... the cup holder thing was confusing to me!!

I think it all makes sense now ! Looking forward to hearing a report from you on how it works out!

can't install organizer

Post by redcass »

I'm having trouble gluing the velcro in. I'm using Gorilla Glue, dampening the surface first, but it just isn't holding.

Should I try a different glue? Any other tips? I really want to use this organizer!

Thanks,

Sticky back velcro worked great for me. I cleaned the surface with rubbing alcohol and then stuck it on (moderately warm day- probably mid 70's) and left it for a day before attaching the organizer. Hasn't budged!

Gorilla Glue on the non-stick velcro worked like a charm on mine.

This organizer is a great, simple addition to the buddy.

If anyone reading this is considering ordering one, just do it.

Private message robonz, If I remember, he said for people to do that if they wanted to order one. Someone was talking about scooter cup holders, and robonz said to contact him/her if they wanted one.

Kziemer,
Did you ever get the glovebox liner for you Pamplona? I am thinking of ordering one and wanted to know how yours turned out.
If you got it, can you post pics of it installed?

If the PM is still in your Outbox, it may have gotten trapped. There's a system bug that causes problems sometimes. You may just want to try again or resend the original PM.

Since this thread has been resurrected, I gotta say that I still use my organizer every day. The cupholder doesn't get much use so it's good that it just flattens out but the two pockets get the cell phone and either house keys or iPod every day and they never bounce out.

Also, it's really hard to tell it's even there, so it doesn't change the cosmetics of the scooter much at all.

Hopefully robonz23 is still making them and you guys can get them. It really helps turn a somewhat clumsy glovebox into something useful.
