LED HS1 bulb to use in headlight?

Howdy, I'm looking for a tried and true HS1 LED bulb in the 5000k-6000k range to replace the stock bulb in the headlight of the Stella 4t. Any suggestions out there?

I'm trying to go LED where I can to save power, as the lights on my sidecar draw a lot. I just replaced the 50W halogen on the sidecar headlight with a 4W short H3 LED bulb, as well as the brake and running lights on the scooter with LED replacements.

Not really recommendation, but there's one consideration I'd like to point out:

Most of the LED headlamps I've seen that are halfway decent have a pretty good-sized heatsink built into the rear of them. This may be a show stopper as there isn't much room in the Stella headset as-is.

As for a bulb, I'd look for something with a CREE emitter built in, I've had good results with those in running lamps.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Thanks! I noticed that too. I noticed that the dual "filament" HS1 LED bulbs all are 60W+ rated, have the heat sink and are much brighter (1000 lumens).

The regular replacement is a 35W rated bulb, not dual "filament" and around 700 lumens of brightness.

Does anyone know the brightness of the current Stella headlight? I know it's a 35W low power rated bulb...

At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

I was just checking out Amazon's price on the PIAA(it's $34 with free s/h) and saw this in the "also viewed" section

it might be a good mid priced option, 825 lumen for ~$16.

I have a cheap Philips bulb(not the one in the link) in my Buddy and it has performed quite well.

I run the Piaa HS1 as well, best bulb I have found so far.
Speed is only a matter of money...How fast do you want to go?

Thanks, I have found that running an LED H3 on the sidecar gets blown when I switch to brights on the scooter. I fear the same thing might happen if I put in an LED HS1 bulb. I think I'm going to stick with halogen bulbs, and just get a lower watt bulb for the sidecar headlight. (It's 55W, but I saw some 25W ones online).

I used a 18w in my sidecar for low draw reasons. The light is nice to have, but the stellas don't have a lot of juice to spare :)

I'm learning just how little juice there is! I now have a running 25W head light on the nose of the Cozy, a running dual filament 5W tail light and 10W brake light on the fender and a bullet blinker on the top of the fender.

Maybe a shop like RickyStator would rewind your lighting coils for a bit more output?

You might be able to use an older 2T Stella Stator ('03-'05) as a core. It's a dead ringer for the 4T stator once you unbolt it from it's backing plate; just might need a new set of wire connectors.

PIAA not worth it

Just tried the PIAA, about as bright as a 10W LED or 40W incandescent (~600 lumens) - not much better than stock. The picture is my 600 lumen flashlight on the left, PIAA on the right. I was considering one of these so I could add a little more lighting. It is supposed to put out 24 watts more than the OEM stator.

Not a bad idea, but that stator won't bolt on on a 4T or work with the cooling fan. This stator has an internal pulser coil. That might work on a late 2T motor ('07-'09) , but the 4T stator assembly is similar to the early ('03 - '05) 2T, albeit with the backing plate removed. This style has the pulser coil mounted external to the fan and reads off the pickup built into the perimeter of the fan.

You can theoretically double your wattage by doing a half-wave to full-wave conversion (AC to DC conversion). I did it to my Stella because I needed more watts to power an EFI system and electric oil pump. You can read about the conversion here - http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic108185.2 . I used this TrailTech voltage regulator - http://www.amazon.com/Trail-Tech-7004-R ... B00JGRATRM . The TrailTech is rated for 150 watts, theoretically doubling the wattage on a Stella would bring you up to 196 watts, I emailed TrailTech and they said their regulator was good for 200 watts they just advertise it at 150 watts because their stators are rated for 150 watts. And I seem to be getting plenty of watts to run everything.

One nice thing about the DC is that your headlight will stay bright all the time, with AC your headlight will dim and brighten dependent on your rpm's (when you give it throttle it gets brighter and when you let off of the throttle it dims).

Wiring it all up is the tricky part.

I'm using this LED headlight - http://www.carid.com/lumen/lumen-plazma ... 64409.html . Seems to work fine, but I haven't tested it as far as driving somewhere where it totally dark out. I live in the Chicago area and we have plenty of street lights.
