Report from the DMV
So, I make an appointment and they tell me just to get in line with everyone else! Then they tell me to park in lane #2 for "verification" while I fill out a form. The verification lady wants to see VIN, Federal Tag, Engine # and CARB (smog) sticker. I show her all those and she shows me her Chinese Scooter parked nearby!
Back inside I take a number and wait. The man at the computer screen does some typing, then says "$176 please". I pay him and get a CA plate and registration. A lot less hassle than I had imagined. In and out in 1 hour.
I'm keeping the POC plate frame.

Try SCoot Over in Tucson. They have quite few in stock. They didn't have a Pamploma last week when I was thre though. Can't hurt to call though.eldoroddo wrote:I checked all the major dealers in CA, AZ, and NV the first week in July, as I was willing to take a road trip to get a scoot.
Everyone was out of scooters.

Here's the sticker. The DMV lady didn't write down any info from it, she just verified that it was there. Sorry about the scratches, but I use the pet carrier. I suspect the sticker is like a DOT on a helmet. It has to be there at the time of sale but not after.

its not the sticker causing him a problem.
its the paperwork.
i think he mentioned before that the paperwork doesnt specify carb even though the sticker does.
but i dont know if anyone else has an 09 .. it might be that the paperwork is different? or that this person he's dealing with is just a moron.

DMV
Here in Arizona, we have private title & registration agencies in addition to the DMV. The benefit is that you're not dealing with pompous, imbecilic government employees who apply their own interpretation to any regulations, real or imaginary; you don't have to stand in interminable lines, and you save time and, often, money. Some years ago, I went to retitle and register a 48cc scooter. The local DMV informed me that a scooter under 50cc could not be legally driven on a public road. I went back to the dealer, and they referred me to a private agency nearby. Five minutes and $19.95 later, I had a new title, registration and plates.

Re: DMV
AAA will do this in most states, as will some insurance companies. If you're having trouble, check with them.PeterC wrote:Here in Arizona, we have private title & registration agencies in addition to the DMV.
