the motorcycle riders around town. I thought that many of them would look down their noses at me, but probably 99% have acknowledged me as we pass. Maybe it is respect b/c like them, I must have giant brass balls to ride a two wheeler in this town full of dumbasses. I nominate this town for worst drivers in america.

Sorry, that's taken by my town. Apparantly the City Council and the Board of County Commissioners got together and passed a joint ordnance outlawing the use of turn signals. Everyone else seems to know about it but me.

I actually had a motorcycle guy the other day give me a waive as he went buy, Woot!

Don't tell him but I was scared to death when I raised my hand to respond (scary one hand driving for a newb lol)

About 8 of us went to a motorcycle awareness around here with about 700 other motorcyclists. I've noticed since then a lot of the local bikers have been pretty cool lately.

Weeeeird I'm having the opposite experience. I rarely even get a nod from motorcyclists in Austin, TX. I think it might be because I have a full face with a black visor so eye contact isn't really possible. The ones that do acknowledge me are almost always wearing full face helmets too, so maybe we have that anonymous connection?

I'll just be more proactive from now on and do the waving/nodding first. It always feels goofy when they don't respond, but whatchagonnado? :? I already ride a scooter while decked out in gear so it's not like I'm trying to impress anybody.

Better yet, I'm throwing glitter into the air whenever I pass a motorcycle.

I think it's a mass allergy to blinker fluid that's the cause. Utah has that issue as does alot of Wyoming

Actually, I think it's one of those funny Utah state laws. They outlawed blinkers on cars. Only out-of-state cars have them.

Heh, I frequently wave at people and get a terrified newbie look in return. I fully expect a return wave when I see them again in a month or so. :)

yeah i get the same gestures from motorcycle dudes..but i have a clear face shield and carry the look of murder

however, badbrains, it seems like austin has a bit of arrogance amongst subculture there... when i lived there other "serious" bike riders stuck up their noses..to the point where i'd turn around and follow them until they started talking to me.... i can't stand unfriendly people

Opposite here in Tulsa. The sport bikers won't have anything to do with me! They seem very elitist in their quasi-transformer gear (I wear full gear too, just not so bright)! The Motorcyclers are hit-and-miss. Some do, some don't.

Do most people here just wave (hand up) or do the low wave when you pass someone? One group of scoots hit me with a multiple horn-honking barrage as I passed! And there I was waving....

here i find it's the crotch rockets who rarely wave. i get the harley guys waving about half the time and then the casual rider...the guys who are riding like a nighthawk, goldwing, or suzuki or something, they usually wave all the time. they seem to be riding more for the fun of it and less concentrated on the status of having a crotch rocket or harley. not to say they're all like that, just what i've noticed in my area.

I can ABSOLUTELY vouch for Pensacola drivers' retardedness... Random speed variances, swerving on & off shoulders, riding with trash flying out the back of their truck, etc. If you ever see a signal on, it is usually some doofus who is NOT turning or who is actually about to turn the other way! ...Very confusing.

I do get waves from almost everyone on 2 wheels tho. It's most likely because they instantly notice how cool I am and want to impress me!!! :P I gave this one dude a peace sign the other day and he totally took his right hand off the throttle and waved back madly with this huge grin on his face! ...made my day...

Haven't had a lot "the wave" , but I do get one it feels pretty cool.
As for drivers here in CO : A law was made a distant moon ago here,
Blinkers must be forgotten on the spot
and there's no legal limt to the speed here
you just get rammed a lot......

(will add to this later - feel free to add you own verse ! )

with all apologies to Lerner and Lowe...

In Houston, Harley drivers almost always wave especially when I'm on my Vespa GTS but that's usually as I pass them by. 8) I have had a few Harley riders asking me serious questions about my Buddy and know two who have bought one for "in town" riding but kept their Harley's for cruising.

Most cruisers and general street bikes do to, except for the guys who think you need to be in all black on a bike that can easily go 160 with dark visors on their helmets or are crusing around in a shirtless in a leather vest with no helmet, at most a leather du rag who are "just too cool".

Though coming back from a group ride to Galveston a group of Ninjas made a point of catching us up. (They were stopped in a lot next to the access road when we rode past to the causeway.) Most were friendly but I was rather annoyed that the leader though he had to go in front of our group and pull a wheelie. At least he went far enough ahead that if he crashed we'd have time to react and go around.

girls on scooters getting waves from guy on cycles isn't a valid measure of whether scooters are accepted imho.
but i personally have found acceptance by many, so i am not saying it isn't there either.

With the gear I wear, you prolly couldn't even tell that I'm a chick! Maybe I just send off the chick "vibe", so it is still understood that all dudes (regardless of what they are driving) must wave back?

Is that how it works? :bat: ...

Yep. They're picking up on your "cool chick" vibe! You rock, so they have to waive!

Well, with the gas crunch and all, when I ride in traffic on my white Honda Elite 80 with my chrome 1/2 helmet on, leather jacket and aviator reflector glasses, folks here in San Jose think I'm a motorcycle cop on the cheap..... Overall, the kids at the local high school think it's cool and yell
"nice ride".
