This reminds me of when I was new, there was a video of this black girl on the show "My sweet six teen" posted on this forum. The video is now gone due to youtubes silly copywrite policy, but she bought a pink buddy.

Kids on that show want fancy bmw's and other rich and expensive cars, but I was surprised she wanted a scooter. Then again, she got like 4 scooters with different sized engines, so she was still spoiled

EDIT:

It's funny how scooters are usually popular to older folks 30-40 maybe 50 years old, but now people my age are riding them too. I never thought of them as a fad, but I've always loved them. Motorcycles are cool too, but scooters in general are the coolest 2 wheels there are. Everyone my age says scooters are for old people who cant use the clutch on a real bike, but I ignore what people say, I'd choose my bike again if I was offered some super bike for the same price.

I think it's funny we still describe people by the color of their skin. I'm sure inadvertently, but it still happens. :?

We desribe people in lots of ways....color of hair--red or bald; how tall they are, short, tall, or heavy, thin, etc

It is not meant to be derogatory.

Thanks for your level-headed insight, ryder1. And anyway, I'm more concerned with the color of her scooter!

Personally, I prefer yellow, but pink is okay...

Guys where I work make fun of it "Wheres the little Moped thing today"

But then all the girls love it, my manager and one of my fellow employees want scooters now. But they're too poor they claim.

Yea, too true about the gas mileage thing, but shes going to have the last laugh when she rolls right over you with her wrangler when shes not paying attention to the road while shes on the cell or doin her makeup in the rearview mirror, or jammin to music way too loud and doin a little dance in the drivers seat... [/cynicism] But really, enjoy and be safe, 17 is too young to become a road pancake.

Remember you arent visible on the roads, you arent invincible either. Before I got my scooter, I thought if I minded my own business, I'd be safe, people would see me, like any other car. But then after taking the MSF and studying, I learned, you are invisible to traffic most of the time. People look for big cars, and their eyes wander at the scenery when driving. They'll stop or accelerate and forget you where there, because you didnt catch their eyes like a car would have. You gotta do not only your job on the roads, but theirs. and not only the traffic going in the same direction as you, sometimes people pull out of parking lots and places like crazy. I ride around town alot, and I see people floor out of a K-mart/bank parking lot without noticing me.

I haven't had many problems with other drivers yet.. But im constantly learning each time i go out what to watch for. I just assume no one can see me, and do that when i drive the cage too. Always assume everyone is gunna do something stupid and i swear that approach has saved myself a few accidents. The only thing ive had trouble with is people turning left infront of me because they see a moped and assume im slow or something and think they can make in in time

I just love saying that when someone calls a scoot a "moped".

Btw, make sure your cousin had a helmet on, passengers need helmets

Well I'm black and white...and it seems that people get offended over things like race but it doesnt bother me if you say "this one black chick" or" that white gurl". Its just a way of tellin people what race someone is. A way of identifying someone.

Congrats on your new Buddy! You are going to have a total blast on it! :D Like everyone above said, be careful, and always keep a watch out for others in cars.

Beaufort eh? My brother was stationed there for 5 years working on the Marine base at the paper. There was a chocolate place there I loved... I want to say the Chocolate Tree? Amazing chocolates. I kept a box in my freezer for when he moved so I had a supply and then I ate them all.

Now I need some candy. Dangit. :D
