@#$% japanese beetles

Post by twoscoots »

The last week or so I've been seeing a lot of them, but today was the worst by a long shot. Guess I'll ride with my face shield down. I'm tired of picking beetles out of my hair when I can't duck them. Too distracting!

Yuck.

I remember summers in Lynchburg, the beetles were everywhere. We used to tie a thread around one of their legs and hold it while they flew in circles. They would make about three laps before their little leg tore off and they flew away!

We've had a big year for the Japanese beetles here in the Mid-South, they're everywhere. One hit my helmet last night coming back from the towns fireworks celebration. Sounded like a rock hitting my helmet at 40 mph. Luckily it didn't splatter, just bounced off the top.

I'm just glad I haven't had any issues with the 17-year cicadas yet. Yeah...visor down. Much as I like green, growing, and warm...insects are one of my least favourite things about summer.
