2008 Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt Week 7: Scoot to Work

Post by ScootLemont »

Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt Week 7: Scoot to Work
July 11th-17th

July 16th is national Ride To Work Day http://www.ridetowork.org/
So we are having ride to work WEEK!

4pts for a photo of your scooter at YOUR place of WORK (any day this week – doesn’t have to be on the 16th)
(In front of a sign or the building would be best, please no photos of generic parking lots)
*Work from home? I guess we will take a photo of your scooter at your house… but that seems pretty easy so you better have some bonus points or everyone else will assume you are just lazy.
Yes – homemaker, mother, domestic goddess counts as a job (I asked my wife)
Don’t have a job? Well if you are a student, I guess we will accept a photo at YOUR school.
Not a student & don’t have a job? – you don’t have time to be hanging on this board & should click here http://www.monster.com/

The bonus points:
(We don’t have to see the entire scooter – we do need to be able to clearly see the prop but we should be able to tell it is with your scooter.)
Up to 3 props may be used in your photo for points – no more (that’s 3, as in three as in a maximum of 1+1+1 , you can have more props, but you only get points for 3 props)

+4 Copy machine (full size - not a little desktop one)
+2 Adding machine (not a calculator – you know… adding machine with a printer & paper tape)
+2 Paper shredder
+1 White Out
+2 Office Telephone (NOT a home phone or cell phone – you know what I mean… multi line, lots of buttons, etc)
+1 Yellow highlighter
+3 Water cooler

+3 Worlds best boss trophy (not just the old bowling trophy you have in your closet – please submit a close-up for verification & possible use in the video)
+ 5pts Stapler IN A JELLO MOLD (regular staplers don’t count) EDIT - I mean "just a stapler" does not count - we are looking for a regular stapler inside a jello mold

+1pt for the first photo posted this week.

But ScootLemont…. I don’t ride to work… but I still want to play!
Ok, Ok, you can still play this week by using up to 3 props in your scooter photo taken at home (or anywhere else) you just don’t get the initial 4pts for the photo of your scooter at work.

PLEASE do your own math & include you point total with your submission!!!! (if you don’t include your points, you don’t get them)

General Rules for every week:
-A new photo subject added every Friday. Participants will have until the following Thursday to post their pic (taken that week)
-Only one photo may be submitted by each member for each week’s subject. (but if you get a better pic later in the week, PLEASE edit your original post note that you posted a better pic and note in the newer post that it is a replacement for a previous pic.
-Old photos you have lying around can NOT be used- they must be NEW photos taken the week the photo subject was posted
-10 BONUS POINTS (good anytime all summer) for a photo of you getting a ticket (photo must include your scooter & a cop writing the ticket) only one of these may be submitted per player. (Thanks to kazoo for the suggestion)
(Edit – you don’t have to be REALLY getting a ticket… if you can get a cop to pose like he/she is writing you a ticket, that is good enough)
-No Photoshop submissions
-Prize? Sure, if we can figure out a way to do that, but the real prize will be bragging rights & all the fun we all had all summer.

Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt!
What is it? - Every Friday a new photo subject is posted in gallery forum & it will be your job to go get a photo of your scooter with that subject.

When is it? - It was started May 30th & hopefully will run it all summer, finishing up Labor Day weekend. That will give us 14 photos to get.
Who? - EVERYONE is encouraged to participate, the more players the better! Some subjects will be easy & some will be more difficult. Some might be impossible for some people but do your best & participate when you can. Don’t worry if you didn’t get in at the start... just jump in anytime!

If anyone has any suggestions for photo subjects or on how to make this more fun, please post up or PM me.

Here is a link to an index of the previous weeks as well as the weekly videos

This one sucks, I can't ride to work (I'm on a workman's comp claim for the surgery) also I work construction and don't have office supplies :x

Ok, I do technically do auto mechanics out of my garage on the side and run my small skateboard company from home so this is my submission
Scoot at work/home 4pts
1st pic posted 1pt
=5pts
Image

If you decide this was too lazy I will post pics of the wound and yell cause its hard enough to walk to the bathroom, let alone out to the garage
I wont resubmit this week, unless this is declined

Hmmm...let me get this straight. You want a pic of the scoot in FRONT of where I work....but I get bonus points if I drag a full size copier out in front of the building WITH my scoot? :? Oh Yeah.....the boss would love that! Or....do I ride my scoot INTO the building ... up 19 floors in the elevator, zing into the copy room and take the photo there? Hmmm... wonder if I can get by security on Saturday?

Oh, and what's this stapler in a jello mold that's not a regular stapler? You mean I can't take a regular stapler and throw it in a bowl of jello?

ScooterTrash - that counts since you do auto mechanics out of your garage on the side and run your small skateboard company from home.
Injured and lazy are not the same.
Hope you are doing better soon.

OScoot!
The pic dosent HAVE to be in front of the building... That would just be best - I am just hoping to avoid photos of scooters in parking lots or parking garages with out your place of work also in the photo.
Yeah... some of the items might be harder or impossiable for some people... (I cant get a copier photo)
But to answer your question... yes you would get bonus points if you drag a full size copier out in front of the building WITH your scoot.
Maybe someone else will be able to drive into their building & park next to theirs.... maybe someone has a copier on a loading dock... maybe someone works for xerox & can get a pic of their scooter with a copier while blowing it up with fireworks, while making a copy of an American flag, while the firemen come to put it out & they are getting a ticket for using fireworks :D

Too funny! How about a bonus point for getting your boss (or a prof or Dean if you're a student or your accountant if you're self-employed or your kids if you work as a full-time mom or dad) in the pic?

I only have a couple questions.

Does the stapler have to be in actual jello or just in the metal mold to make the jello?

I am a freelance writer and have no use for some of the equipment mentioned, BUT I do a lot of freelance at client offices. Can I use these locations as my place of business?

*If I do use a photo of the scoot at an onsite client location, I will give a recap of the work I did for them so you don't just think I went into a business down the street and took photos of their stuff with my scoot. ALTHOUGH that would show some chutzpah and would deserve even more bonus points.

I was thinking about something similar to that... but how would we know if it was really your boss etc.
I would be happy to trust everyone, but we have had "issues" over the color of trucks, waving little league kids, etc.

For clarification, can we submit 2 pics, one in front of work and one with props? I'm thinking I can probably get my scoot inside for a shot with a copier, but you wouldn't be able to tell it was at work. I would need a 2nd photo for that.

People cheat? Hmmm...maybe *that's* what's wrong with me, all that darn trusting. I guess if someone is so lame as to use a stand-in for the points, let 'em have the points. On their deathbeds it will flash before their faces and they'll die feeling really crappy ;)

Only one pic for points this week... if you post a pic with your scooter & a copier & say it is at work, we will believe you.
If you want to post an additional pic to "verify" it is at work, thats fine, but we are only giving out points for one pic this week.

You left out the teachers! No work to go to during the summer so no access to the office supplies!

I think it would be cool to offer points for a 'job related' prop as well (i.e. construction worker = hammer, teacher = ruler...etc). Might make things a little more exciting for people like ferfdom, that can't get access to the other items.

The way I understand it: yes, but you can retake it with all of those things on the scoot in front of where you work to get all the points.

And then submit that first pic as proof that your scoot is indeed in front of where you work.

Yeah, to get the copy machine points, that's pretty much what I'd have to do. I have keys to the building, looks like I'll have some "work" to do on Sunday when nobody is around haha

nice work mary jane! I'm impressed!

I'm going to struggle with this one because I am a part time model and have no work location...my office, where I book jobs, is at home, so I guess a pic in front of the house would work, right? the last job I worked was for Wii Fit and the only supplies I have relating to that is a pair of wii fit socks, but thats not on the list for points... :( the only supply from that list that I have is a mini yellow highlighter. I guess that'll have to make its way in the pic. looks like it's going to be another wimpy points week for me. hopefully i can pull something big next week. :)

This was sort of convenient, since I was driving my scooter to work today anyway.

I'd have rolled it into the building and taken a picture since it's the weekend, but I work on the sixth floor and it's a high security building in downtown DC. The security guards don't like gas filled vehicles in the building - something to do with 9/11.

Scooter at work: 4 pts
Whiteout: 1pt
Yellow highlighter: 1 pt
Office phone: 2 pts
Total Points: 8 pts

Note: I saw a post asking people how they locked their scooters up. This is the method to my madness. Note the Xena XZN-6 on the front wheel, the hardened steel noose chain, and the Xena BULLETT XPL 69 Alarmed Padlock locking the hardened chain to the bike. Does anyone think they know how I can improve this configuration (wrapping the chain around the scooter isn't an option - the chain isn't long enough).

Whooo Hoooo Max points!

Post by OScoot! »

Oh boy.....I did it ....I did it..... Scoot to the office today....17 miles. In luck.....security guard is off on rounds. Hurry through the lobby to the freight elevator....up 19 floors....into the copy room/kitchen. Set up all the props...knees shaking....heart thumping. (Could never have had a career in covert ops!) Pull the water cooler out a bit so it'll be in the photo! Thank heavens the bottle was nearly empty. Take a bunch of photos.....some blurry 'cause my hands are shaking so bad. But want to be sure I get all the points I can! Back down the freight elevator. Thinking of what story I can tell if the security guard is back at the front desk. Still in luck...no one there.....out the front door! WHOOOOO HOOOO!!! :whew: Now, if no one looks at the security tapes I'm in good shape! :shhh: Otherwise, retirement may come sooner than I anticipated!!!

Wheeeeeee!!!!!! I'm so exhausted now I think I'll take a nap....if only my heart would stop pounding so loud.

+4pts points your scoot at your office
+4pts Copy machine (full size - not a little desktop one)
+3pts Water cooler
+5pts Stapler IN A JELLO
16 points total

I know I can't get any more points...but these items are also in the photo just cause I had them!
+2 Adding machine (not a calculator – you know… adding machine with a printer & paper tape)
+2 Paper shredder (grey thing visible at the end of the table near the scoot)
+2 Office Telephone (NOT a home phone or cell phone – you know what I mean… multi line, lots of buttons, etc)

Here's a link to a larger photo

and here's a closeup of the jello mold with the stapler upside down - blurry cause my hands were shaking!

and when I tried to turn the mold over so the stapler was upright, it fell apart...but you can see the stapler.

and here's the front of the building to prove I was there.

Here is the clip of the jello / stapler from the America Office
note... NBC tends to have these pulled down so dont know how long the link will work

Note: if anyone needs to use photoshop (or paint or whatever) to remove a company name or something like that from your photo, so you dont get in trouble... go ahead.

WOW! OScoot!, we should just all give up and bow down to you. You are completely crazy. I can just hear the conversation with your boss explaining well, I get extra points for this and that and that and right now I'm leading for the week and...

Yeah....I am a bit crazy....but that comes with old age!!! HA...when you're an old fart like me, what'dya have to lose? Life is for having fun....and taking chances. Think of the stories I have to tell now! When I'm sitting around with my nieces telling them about the time Auntie Carol did this and that! Besides, what would they do? Fire me? I don't recall ever seeing a RULE that said, "No scooters allowed IN the building." Well, as I brazenly say all this....let's hope I'm still around to participate in next week's hunt and not somewhere UNDER a jailhouse! :)

Well, I made the jello, poured it into a loaf pan, put the stapler in, put the jello in the freezer so it would firm up faster. Then waited and waited and waited and waited...hurry up and freeze!

Put the loaf pan in my insulated lunch bag cooler. Added a ziplock bag of ice cubes to keep it cool and flew as fast as I could in 90 degree weather down to my office. When I got there, I put the jello back in the freezer to stay cold, while I set up all the other props. Then, took it out of the freezer, flipped it out onto the plate and took the photos. It probably had not gotten as solid as I would have liked it to, but I was pressed for time if I was going to try to pull this off before anybody decided to go spend their Sunday at the office! Then, when I tried to flip it right side up, all the jello sorta crumbled. Oh well, it stayed solid enough to get one photo! By the way, I poured everything back into the loaf pan and put it back in the freezer at work! Wonder what the first person who finds it is going to say!

I'm SOOOO tempted not to even post my photo this week. Oscoot beat me to it.

I did some work (freelance, remember) for a school department in a neighboring town. My GF is the head of strategic planning for the dept and said I could bring Scootle into the building. But her water cooler is down the hall so I'd have to move that quite a ways AND deal with the town gov't seeing me in the office with a scooter.

I'm currently making jello and may have to come up with a plan for tomorrow at another client's office so I can get a water cooler into the photo with a copier and the jello.

It's not paranoia if people are out to get you.

Darn you Oscoot!

Aw...c'mon and post it.....it's all in fun. I'm sure there'll be plenty of others that will have pics even better. At the least their jello will be better!

I am very impressed with the pics so far this week.
Since “ride to work day” is this week, I really wanted to tie the subject in with that but I was not confident everyone would enjoy my additional points challenges. (Especially people who don’t watch “The Office”)
It looks like we are off a great start and it will be ANOTHER fun week.

FYI – my scoot is in the shop (first maintenance & problem with the digital speedo) and they said to call on Wednesday… so I might be out of luck this week

Thanks for playing!

Well, I have to admit I don't watch "The Office", so I was absolutely clueless about the jello thingy until you put the video link up. But when I watched all those practical jokes clips I was ROFL. My SO watches it, but I never could get into it. I'd end up surfing on the computer. Still haven't caught on to what you meant about us "figuring out what you were going to do on the video this week". I'll just have to wait and be surprised! :o
