Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt Week 8: Scooter Picnic

Post by ScootLemont »

Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt Week 8: Scooter Picnic
July 18th-24th

This week’s entire hunt comes to us from jsprandel – thanks!

July is:
-National Picnic Month
-Teddy Bear Picnic Day was the 10th of July
-National Parks and Recreation Month
-National Hot Dog/Baked Bean/Blueberry/Ice Cream Month
-National Grilling Month

+5 points for picture of you with your scooter participating in a picnic
+1 point if there's a teddy bear in the picture
+3 points if its in a NATIONAL park/NATIONAL recreational area (please identify it)
This link should help you find one http://www.nps.gov/findapark/
Sorry but state, county & local parks don’t count for National Park points, but you can still picnic there!
+2 points if your eating a Hot Dog, Baked Beans, Blueberry (product), or ice cream
+2 points if there's a barbeque grill in the picture
+1 point for post of first picture in this week

EDIT 1pm CST 7/18 Please try your best to have all the items clearly visible in your photo - the intent is to have one photo from each player - that being said, if you want to post up a close up for verification of a park sign, or a small item, that is ok, but hopefully we will be able to see everything in the single photo

Please note: You can earn points in all categories, but can use each category only once.
(in others words… you only get 2 points total for the food items, even if you have more than one in the photo – all the food items are one category together. Feel free to take a pic of you eating a bean covered hotdog ice cream Sunday, but it’s still only 2pts)

PLEASE do your own math & include you point total with your submission!!!! (if you don’t include your points, you don’t get them)

General Rules for every week:
-A new photo subject added every Friday. Participants will have until the following Thursday to post their pic (taken that week)
-Only one photo may be submitted by each member for each week’s subject. (but if you get a better pic later in the week, PLEASE edit your original post note that you posted a better pic and note in the newer post that it is a replacement for a previous pic.
-Old photos you have lying around can NOT be used- they must be NEW photos taken the week the photo subject was posted
-10 BONUS POINTS (good anytime all summer) for a photo of you getting a ticket (photo must include your scooter & a cop writing the ticket) only one of these may be submitted per player. (Thanks to kazoo for the suggestion)
(Edit – you don’t have to be REALLY getting a ticket… if you can get a cop to pose like he/she is writing you a ticket, that is good enough)
-No Photoshop submissions
-Prize? Sure, if we can figure out a way to do that, but the real prize will be bragging rights & all the fun we all had all summer.

Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt!
What is it? - Every Friday a new photo subject is posted in gallery forum & it will be your job to go get a photo of your scooter with that subject.

When is it? - It was started May 30th & hopefully will run it all summer, finishing up Labor Day weekend. That will give us 14 photos to get.
Who? - EVERYONE is encouraged to participate, the more players the better! Some subjects will be easy & some will be more difficult. Some might be impossible for some people but do your best & participate when you can. Don’t worry if you didn’t get in at the start... just jump in anytime!

If anyone has any suggestions for photo subjects or on how to make this more fun, please post up or PM me.

Here is a link to an index of the previous weeks as well as the weekly videos

The video from week 7 is up!

Let me know if I goofed up your points

This is great and OMIGOD so many opps for points. Gonna be a challenge.

I don't think I'll be first, but I will hopefully get all the points...may have to take Scootle on a boat to the national parks in Boston Harbor.

I may be back with a National Park, but it's going to take some miles to do it.

Nope... if you post up another photo the point for first pic will fall to the next person to post up - we had that happen a couple weeks ago.
but that would give you more points.... so feel free - but if you do post anther pic, leave your first pic up because it is great

Will there be add'l points given for a 'real' picnic? As in not staged for the photo op? Just asking...I have my birthday fish fry tomorrow night and I just need to find a teddy bear, otherwise, it really will be an actual picnic gathering with 50+ guests in the photo.
Yes, it's fast. No, you can't ride it.

Sorry... but no... there would be no real way to tell a real picnic from a staged one later in the week... other than the number of people maybe.

Just a hunch, but I bet since it is National Parks and Recreation Month, that the ruling won't be in your favor.

No - not a national monument
NATIONAL park/NATIONAL recreational area
Now... it is possiable that a national monument is in a national park (Mt. Rushmore is in a National Park) but since it is National Parks and Recreation Month, we are looking for National Parks

If anyone wants a "ruling" on a location before your ride there... feel free to PM me.
That link contains things that are not parks... Like the Lincoln home in Springfield IL - its a historic site but not a NATIONAL park/NATIONAL recreational area

I just thought the link would help people find PARKS

Now... back to the photos! - lets see 'em!

It is National Parks and Recreation Month
So... if there is a National Historic Site or a National Monument that is located in a recreation or park area & you want to use that, but are not sure if it counts, please PM me & I will give you a ruling.

If it is a national park, no need to PM me ALL national parks count.

Ok, ok, so there's Gulf Islands National Seashore... we locals call it Johnsons Beach or Chicken Bone beach. I'd go there if I had some money, but I don't. :( I actually managed to work up negative 2,000 buck this month... hmm... where did THAT come from?!

We had to have a picnic in a national park. I went to Quincy, MA and stopped at the Adams' birthplace - a national park - and had an urban picnic. Here's the National Parks page - http://www.nps.gov/adam/

+5 points for picture of you with your scooter participating in a picnic
+1 point if there's a teddy bear in the picture
+3 points if its in a NATIONAL park/NATIONAL recreational area (please identify it)
+2 points if your eating a Hot Dog, Baked Beans, Blueberry (product), or ice cream
+2 points if there's a barbeque grill in the picture

13 POINTS

Here are the photos...
Image

Main shot. Shows me eating a blueberry product with a grill, a bear, my scooter and a national park in the photo. Next is a closeup so you can see I'm actually biting the muffin (that sounds odd).

Image

Image

This is the photo of everything except me, just to prove the grill, the scoot, the bear, the blueberry and the national park are in the photo. When I used the auto-timer I didn't have a place to rest the camera, so the other perspective is a bit low.

Next shots are all the pieces separately.

Image

Image

Blueberry Iced Coffee

Image

Blueberry muffin (in my mouth in the main photo).

Image

Winnie the Pooh. He was rumbly in his tumbly whilst I snacked on my muffin and coffee. It was time for something sweet.

AND 13 POINTS IS SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!

I laughed and laughed. It's so funny if you think of the show and then think of people going to the 19th floor, sneaking past security and putting staplers in jello.

How can that not be funny?

Awesome video. Great work again!

Wow...
I really hate to give anyone a hard time that is playing but...
I guess if you really want to take 13 points for that you can but...
these pics are not really in the spirit of the hunt
Are you with your scooter participating in a picnic?
Dosent look like much of a picnic.
Are you in a NATIONAL park/NATIONAL recreational area? Or just parked on the street next to the park?
If you showed someone your pic would they say you are at a picnic with your scooter?
The pics from sikken & Orange Guy are really done in the spirit of the hunt.
You can take the points if you really want to... but I hope you consider taking another pic this week.

You have all the pieces to the puzzle... its just not put together
Again, I am not trying to give you a hard time... just trying to keep the hunt on course

I will take another photo that has me sitting on grass with a blanket and a picnic food item and a bear in a national park with a grill - IF I CAN.

The grill part of the pick was the hard part. In order to get the photo with the grill in it, I had to remain outside the fence. Had I been able to carry a grill with me, I would have parked Scootle next to the fence and hopped over with my blueberry treats, my bear and been totally within the realm of other contestants' shots.

These grills were a lucky happenstance as there is an appliance store right next to the Adams' National Park. If the store wasn't there, I was going to do just as I said above and hop the fence with my goodies and have a picnic.

In my defense, I am afraid of nature and would probably not sit down at a picnic. I hate ants, I don't camp, and I once had a horsefly torment me for a week when I was in Arcadia National Park in Maine.

So, I will rack my brain on a better - and more accessible location for my picnic. The Charlestown Navy Yard in Charlestown MA is the location of Old Ironsides. There is no grass there and it is a National Park. If I find a bench and bring my foodstuffs there - along with a grill and a bear and Scootle - would that count?

Just giving an alternate perspective on what constitutes a picnic. You don't need a Redwood or some elk or even checked tablecloths. It could really happen on pavement.

What if I were sitting on the sidewalk instead of standing near the sign?

What bums me out is that I didn't even rush this and didn't try to manipulate the judges.

Like I said, I'll TRY to do a better one. But I will be able to sleep with my 13 points for now.

Oh, Pooh Bear says, BOTHER!

No different than running through a hydrant instead of going to the beach or a pond. Here in the big city all we have is cement and bitterness.

(That's all sarcasm, by the way.)

As I told SL, I'll try to get more in the spirit. I really hate sitting down on the ground, but will see if I can manage it later this weekend or early next week.

For now I'll keep my picnic as it stands, but you might just see a revised shot from across the street with me inside the fence, grills still in view, sitting on the lawn with Scootle at the fence as they don't allow motorized vehicles on the lawn or in the house.

Cool?

some of the items might be hard to get.... if getting the grill in your pic makes the entire pic suffer, its probably not worth the points.
you dont have to sit on the ground with the icky bugs... a bench would be fine.
It would just be nice if it looked like a picnic - thanks for playing!

you dont have to sit on the ground with the icky bugs... a bench would be fine.
It would just be nice if it looked like a picnic - thanks for playing!

I get it, I'm Stewie.

OK. CANCEL MY PICNIC SHOTS - but feel free to use the close-ups in the video for week 8.

I have an idea for a much more picturesque picnic. I've researched the Boston Harbor Islands and there are two parks that are part of the Boston Harbor Island National Park that are attached to land and I'll be able to scoot to them.

Will seal all my clothes with duct tape and will procure a grill. And it looks like I'm going to have to find some more food as I ate the muffin and the coffee.

BTW, did Pooh Bear qualify or should I get another bear?

I guess I was just so excited. I've never gotten ALL the points before.

Pooh is ok but he is a little small (thats what she said... or sorry, that was last week)
If you can come up with a bigger bear, I think it would be a better pic, if not we will take your little pooh

Looks like a fun picnic... on a sidewalk near a busy street eating a muffin...way to really capture the whole idea of the hunt :?:
No different than running through a hydrant instead of going to the beach or a pond. Here in the big city all we have is cement and bitterness.

(That's all sarcasm, by the way.)

As I told SL, I'll try to get more in the spirit. I really hate sitting down on the ground, but will see if I can manage it later this weekend or early next week.

For now I'll keep my picnic as it stands, but you might just see a revised shot from across the street with me inside the fence, grills still in view, sitting on the lawn with Scootle at the fence as they don't allow motorized vehicles on the lawn or in the house.

Cool?

I guess all i was gettin at is that when most people think of a picnic they do not think of anything you have in your pictures except the grill (you know...the new one at the appliance store)

well..i am off to the ol swimming hole with a piece of wheat in my mouth...one of the days we may get one of them cement ponds you city folk are always talking about

Just to help out a little. This is an idea of what a picnic looks like.

Mine comes close to that, minus the real food, and the fact that my bro didn't want to drag his lazy ass out of bed to go have a real picnic with me.

You've probably never been to the annual Blueberry Iced Coffee picnic in Muncie, IN.

It's second only to the McDonald's-Happy-Meal-Pooh-Bear-prize "goes to a picnic clipped to a Buddy Day." **Edited to add hyphens and quotes.

(This is also sarcasm. I'm making it my mission to teach the world to recognize sarcasm and to stop being so PC.)
