Buddy tires

Post by Jessica »

So I got my Buddy about a week ago. It came with whitewall tires and I'm really just not digging them. I looked at scooterworks to find some replacements, but all they have listed under the buddy are whitewalls. Do you guys know of an online dealer that has some regular black buddy tires?

These Continental Zippy 1 tires from MotorSport Scooters should do the trick:

I have ordered a number of items from MotorSport Scooters and they have always shipped the items very quickly.

I just got the scooterworks weekly special email and they had tires (blackwalls) on sale.

Does your 50 take the same size as the 125 and 150?

I think the tires on sale were the 10 x 3.50.

I like my Michelin S1's. I scored a set online for $55 shipped.

Google 10 inch scooter tires 3.50x10 is the spec.

I bought my tires thru the online motorcycle superstore. Had them in 3 days. As Leeroy says standard 3.50 x 10. I ordered Michlin S-1, and they improved the handling by a large margin. Riden in rain and they handle great.

The Buddy 50 tires are 90/90 - 10. I found these at motorcyclesuperstore.com, but I really don't know crap about tires.

Those won't fit my Buddy 50, but I did see these on there. I might go for them.

Leeroy, where did you find those tires at that price? That's a great deal!

Will 100/80/10 and 100/90/10 work well on the Buddy 125?

It’s coming time soon for a new rear tire on my scoot; I have never changed out a scooter tire; has anyone done so on the Buddy, is it difficult to do at home? Any suggestions on how to do it; that is special tools etc.

I always get confused with tire sizes but the Buddy accepts either tire size:

90/90 - 10 or 3.50 x 10

It does not matter whether you have a Buddy 50, a Buddy 125 or a Buddy 150 because all the Buddy models use the same size tire rim so if a tire fits on a Buddy 50 then it will also fit on a Buddy 125 or Buddy 150.

The “90/90 - 10” is the size of the tire expressed in millimeters while the “3.50 x 10” is the size of the tire expressed in inches. Here is what the numbers mean:

90/90 - 10
.^...^.....^
.|.....|......This is the diameter of the tire’s rim, 10 inches.
.|.....This is the aspect ratio in mm which tells you how tall the tire’s sidewall is.
This is the width of the tire in mm. (90 mm x 0.04 = 3.6 in.)

3.50 x 10
.^.........^
.|..........This is the diameter of the tire’s rim, 10 inches.
This is the width of the tire in inches, 3.5 inches.

If you look at Genuine’s WEB site you will see that they use both the “90/90 – 10” sized tires and the “3.50 x 10” sized tires.

You might also get down and see how little clearance there is around the tire, and that will convince you to stay with stock tire size. Stock size tires only have about .25" to .4"of clear space. 90/90/10 and 3.50/10 will be interchangable. I wanted a larger size tire to correct my speedometer but no dice.

Thanks for that!!! You really made it less confusing! However, I looked at my tires after getting home from work today and got this information off of the one's currently on my Buddy 50. Shinko 3.00 - 10 M/C 50J

WTF? Now I'm REALLY confused. It seems my Buddy came stock with neither of the usual sizes.

OK - bumpity-bump-bump.

Motorcycle Superstore has Michelin S1 tires for either $22.99 (90/90-10) or $30.99 (3.50-10).

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/5/ ... -Tire.aspx

There must be a difference, in contradiction to above posts, to account for the 25% difference in price. Could someone please give more technical specifics? I'd like to get the 90/90-10 and save $16 but I don't want clearance issues.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks,

I just bought Michelin S83 tires and am planning to have them put on this Friday.

There is a post ("Smooth ride" I think) on this forum about them and they sound good. I did a little research online (I know nothing about tires) and they get rave reviews from everyone and are sold out at a lot of places.

when i needed a new rear tire for my 50, the one the shop ordered was 3.50x10 and it fit fine on the rim but when i got it on the scooter it had no clearance with the mud guard. they thought the same thing about the sizing. i wish i remembered what we decided was the difference but it didn't make sense to them either. the 90/90-10 fit perfect.

so there is a difference, i just don't remember what it is.

I had forgotten all about this thread. HA! Anyway, here's an update then. I ended up buying some 3.00 - 10 M/C 50J black Continental Zippy 1 tires from http://www.scooterwest.com/. Max was very helpful and I got exactly what I needed. I haven't put them on yet, but I've got them. :)
