Second Annual SPEND-A-THON!!!!!

Post by BuddyRaton »

Yes ladies and gents, boys and girls and everyone else too...it's that time of year again! Time for the
Modern Buddy Second Annual SPEND-A-THON
The economy is in the dumper? Who cares!!!!! Get those credit cards smoking and do your part to help the recovery!

The spend-a-thon will run from the day after Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve .

Please wander over to this thread during this month every time you spend money on scooter gear. ANY scooter gear for ANY scooter!

Thats globally. All brands, A to Z including books, gear, oil, GPS and of course SCOOTERS!!!

Please post your spending in USD to make it easy.
( Do your own currency conversions easily at http://www.xe.com )
There's no need to mention much except the total $$ involved and the date I guess. But you are more than welcome to post a list!.

I will update the total every couple of days! Lets see just how much we can spend! Yes yes...of course cash counts too!

Got a gift under the tree or menorah or for Festivus (for the rest of us!) give it your best honest estimate!

Last year viewtopic.php?t=2792&highlight=spendathon out total was $14,354

With all the new members I'm sure we are going to blast past that mark and set the bar much higher!

Staples has some nice stuff that catches my eye. My uncle tipped me rather than going to staples stores, just sleep in and get on your computer and buy from staples.com They have the same deals in store, and online. Plus online, you're buying from their nationwide warehouse, they wont run out of stock like stores do in 30 minutes after opening.

Why cant all stores do this online? I'd rather race against everyone else to click "Add to cart" than to sit outside and camp over night outside a store.

I might be picking up a 1980 Honda Aero ... won't know until later this week.
I suppose I should be upset, even feel violated, but I'm not. No, in fact, I think this is a friendly message, like "Hey, wanna play?" and yes I want to play. I really really do.

I saw a charge on my credit card for $134.90 on Oct. 24 to SPORTBIKE TRACK GEAR. I'm pretty sure this is a FF helmet for me for Christmas (EXO 400). I also saw the cardboard shipping box in the recycling earlier this month, but for the life of me I CANNOT find the actual helmet!

I was the kind of kid who peeled back a corner of the wrapping to take a peek at stuff before Christmas

My wife is GOOD at hiding things and buys things well in advance! Too good! Earlier this year she found toys for our kids hidden in boxes that they are WAY too old for now!

Since the purchase was in October, you may not want to include it. But I won't get to see the thing until Christmas, so I think it should count :D

I got to order part of my own xmas present today as I checked the scooterworks website and then called to confirm a large amout of accessories is in stock. Hubby graciously said "order them now while they're in stock!" Got a cream top case and two Nautilus air horns (one for the buddy and one for my hubby's motorcycle!) Spent $218.60 total. I suspect hubby has already gone to the local shop to get the 2008 longer mirrors to retrofit on my 2007. Don't remember what those run, but I've begged for those lately!

We're doing our part to keep the scooter folks in business no matter what the economy is doing!

Black Friday. DH & I got out to Cycle Gear. They had a full face helmet for $49.00 and I wanted to get one.

For me: a 707 full face helmet
a set of glove liners
a Foggy mask for the helmet

For DH: a pair of gloves
a flip shield

So, after getting in and getting stuff for us both, the total damage was $156.55.

Not it isn't a super duper helmet, but a full face helmet is better than a 3/4 helmet, and will be warmer in the chill.

My brand new pair of steel toe Dr Martens just came in the mail, and I should be getting my riding jacket on Friday. So that totals about $200.

I'm going this weekend to purchase my brand new Buddy! :D I'll let you know when that purchase is finalized so you can add it to the total.

On November 30th, I traded in my Rough House for a Rattler 110. Since it was a trade-in, I'll only count the difference in price, which was about $780.

I also ordered a refurbished Sansa Clip MP3 player for scooter-exclusive use, for $30.

Lastly, I put a windscreen on order for the Rattler, for $35.

My total (for now): $845

Another $226.55 for wood and bolts to complete the trailer, and $27 for corner brackets to hold the wood sides together. Now the scoot will be nice and secure and safe on it's longer trips. :)

My wife and I set a Christmas spending limit and then buy what we want for ourselves.
In other words, I buy stuff for me and she buys stuff she wants.
99% of the stuff is bought on-line.

The catch is...we can open the shipping cartons to see if the correct thing
was sent and that it arrived undamaged, but we can't assemble, alter, play with or install any of it until Christmas day.

We then have a little show and tell with our gifts.

This arrangement began a few years ago when I really needed a new
drum throne. I hinted and hinted to my wife.
A few days later she said "I just spent over $100 on one of your gifts!"
I thought the throne was a shoe-in.
It turned out to be the Soprano's DVD collection. I'm not even that crazy
about that show.

After that we agreed that in order to not waste $ and get exactly
what we both want we would try this method.
We both think it works well. So after all that, here is my list:

Fuel bottle
Small LED flashlight and AA Sanyo eneloop batteries
Top Case trunk (JC Whitney -actually looks OK)
Greenlight Tripper
Battery Tender waterproof charger, 20' cord, cigarette adapter
Tour-master winter gloves
Echo quick-release helmet chin strap
10' x 2" strip of silver reflective tape (for top case)
Tom Tom Go GPS
(over 90% of my stuff is scooter-related)!

Total $356
