how do you store your jackets + helmets?

Post by hyuuu »

If you don't have a top case installed?

Do you just wear it and strut it through the mall (or office)
I am in the mood of shopping for accessories for my buddy st. tropez :D

Most helmets store easily under the seat, but for a jacket, you either bring it where ever you are going inside, or wear it. I dunno, leaving a fancy jacket outside not locked to the bike or anything is kinda dangerous.

My full face doesn't quite fit in the pet carrier, so before I got the top case I hung it off the helmet pegs with the D ring. My jacket I'll typically just wear it around - after stuffing it under the seat I've sometimes found my armor gets weird creases that feel weird.

My FF helmet fits under the seat. I also carry a cheap bicycle cable lock and run the cable through the jacket sleeve and lock it to the rear rack.

I can fit my FF helmet under the seat too
but now i have to chose either my shoei helmet or my corazzo jacket,
both expensive, roughly the same price range.

Having a bike lock to lock the jacket is a good idea, but it seems that someone can just shake and pull the jacket right off?

The cable goes though the inside of the sleeve like your arm. They would have to destroy either the jacket or the lock to release it.

I got a top case for this very reason. My hemet goes in the pet carrier, jacket in the top box. Of course, being winter, I have been wearing the jacket. But come summer, into the top box it will go.

You could also hang the helmet off the helmet hook.

I hang my helmet by the D-rings. I put my jacket and gloves under the seat.

If you're not locking up your scoot with a chain or cable, I'd suggest stuffing the jacket under the seat and hanging the helmet from the hook.

i see many sport bikes and few scooters that just have their helmets sitting on top of the seat while parked, aren't you supposed to be afraid that somebody might just STEAL it?!

i've always questioned this for a while now..

i personally wouldn't want to steal it because you'll be smothering yourself in the previous owner's sweat, besides, a motorcyclist/scooterist wouldn't do that to another fellow scooterist/motorcyclist, now would they? that is the question :?:

I ride a Stella so I just carry everything everywhere. Always. However, helmets make great shopping baskets.

I just keep my helmet & gloves under the seat. At work I put my jacket in my locker, and at the store I will just wear it inside. Unless it's my winter puffy down jacket, then I will cram it in the seat and hang my helmet by the rings. For quick stops I just keep all my gear on.

Jacket and gloves in the seat, helmet in the top box. Unless the top box is full then i just hang it from the helmet hook. If its cool outside I will keep my jacket on.

I wear the jacket, or just keep it with me. My helmet used to get put under the seat, but I've started carrying some other random stuff there now, so it either gets carried with me, put in my backpack (and carried with me), or hung on the helmet pegs under the seat. Usually, I prefer to carry it with me.

Who has any room under their seat? Hmm, that sounds like a great new topic...

I always use the helmet D-rings on the helmet peg under the seat, unless the weather is rainy or super cold. I just wear the jacket.

yeah, I had my Blur for a year before I realized those nubbins under the seat were helmet hooks...

I sometimes run my chain through the sleeve of the jacket and then lock it up as usual. I keep my pet carrier clean and always put my helmet there, but with other bikes w/no space, I run the cable through the helmet, too.

That doesn't work so well in the rain, then I just lug the stuff around with me. Get a drawstring bag for yr helmet, and be sure not to whack it into anything as you carry it.

My helmet doesn't fit under the seat either and I don't have a topcase yet, sooo yeah. Helmet on the floorboard and jacket/gloves in the seat. I feel like if someone wants my helmet enough to steal it off my bike, they're in for bad enough karma. :P

If I am at work I carry it all with me...my helmet came with a bag so usually carry it in there. However if I am running an errand I usually use the D-ring for the helmet and wear the jacket.

Not a dumb question. When you lift up the seat, you'll see 2 small pegs towards the front. You can slip the D-ring on your helmet strap over one of the pegs, allowing the helmet to hang off the side. When you drop the seat back down, it will capture the D-ring in the peg, securing your helmet to the scoot.

I usually keep my gloves and my jacket in the seat if it's a longer stop. I usually carry my helmet since I didn't know about the D-Ring thing until just now. Yay MB!

The helmet does come in handy as a shoping basket. When I go to the grocery store for things we forgot I usually stuff everything I can in there and then in my other hand I carry the beer.

I'm always afraid of leaving my helmet, it cost a lot and I don't really want to replace it.

We found these a few years ago and were so impressed with them we started carrying them in our shop. The guy is a local racer who was frustrated with his kids playing "battering ram" with his $700 helmets. He knocked a few together for his friends and the rest is local history. We have them at our house as well as in our employee coat room here at the shop. Cheap insurance and it keeps your gear from getting piled at the bottom of some closet.

I always wondered why bikers were so trusting but I guess they figure most people are too afraid the biker would brutalize anyone who dared touch their helmet.

I have a bunch of random stuff under my seat (tools--I carry more than just the little tool set that comes with the Buddy, extra gloves, chain lock, flat fixer stuff, ball cap, etc...).

So the helmet goes on the helmet pegs and the jacket will usually be stuffed into my Prima bag mounted on my rack on back. In spite of the fact that it doesn't lock, it looks like it is locked and no one has messed with it so far.

I don't like to wear my goofy bright blue armored jacket anywhere (other than work) nor carry my helmet.

I'm guessing you might know this, but all helmet manufacturers warn that a drop of 2-3 feet could do unseen damage to a helmet, potentially reducing its effectiveness when you really need it. Certainly some of this is legal CYA, but it's also something to consider.

So that is where Apiarist is coming from. Any helmet you wear likely comes with the same caveat.

Depends where you park your scoot. I can leave my helmet on the seat if it's at a scooter or MC meet. But if I'm going to the mall or someplace like that, there's no way I'm gonna tempt some wiseass punk into showing off for his friends! :P

I usually clip my helmet onto the under-seat helmet lock-tabs and stuff my jacket into the pet carrier...
