Performance modifications...?
These sound zippy out of the box, but, in the spirit of Worlds Fastest Indian, things can be made to go faster.
Pipe, Carb, modifications available? If so how much they costing, and what gains expected?

We intalled the MRP Pack 1 on a Yamaha Vino 50cc which would max out at 30mph. the scooter now does over 65mph. I cant wait to see why they do with the 125cc. there was a write up on MRP in one of the issues of Scoot Quart. if anyone wants to read about it.

C'mon Beamie there are still people that tweak bugs and race the hell out of them. I'ts all about love, but love like language, sounds different in different ears. I love the Buddy, and I will have a different looking Buddy, and if the components are manufactured I will have my Buddy run the way I want my Buddy to run.
I think the trick will be out engineering the PGO engineers. From what I've heard from POC Phil, they've done a damn good job. Maybe they've engineered some growth potential into the bike.
In the end where there's a will there's a way, and speed costs money. The research is happening already.

I want a more power
I think a lot of the 50cc scooters have speed restrictors so just removing those governors immediately improves performance on those 50cc scoots. Our scoots don’t have restrictors so performance improvements will not come by so easy, I wonder what MRP have up their sleeves for the Buddy 125.
I would love to get a 2hp boost – how do you do it?
A big bore kit sounds like a good way as well.
New lighter and balanced wheel and tires also seems like a good way to improve performance, anyone know who does that or how to get lighter wheels?

Basics
If it were me, and I was feeling adventurous.. heres what I would do:
1) 20/1000 overbore, hone and rings.
2) Lighter piston.( dremel anyone?)
3) Lightweight con-rod and new bottom end bearings.
4) Rejet carb.... and high flow aircleaner.
5) A PIPE..gadzooks, I've smoked fatter cigars.
That would be a good start.. there is always bigger valves , lighweight crank, and cam regrind and porting.. but the wilder the motor.. the more un wieldly to ride.. And with more go, you want more stop.. so steel braided brake lines too.
But, I don't have mine yet.. and I don't feel particularly adventurous. I'll prolly keep mine stone stock when i get it.

I have personally been impressed with what MRP has to offer in automatic scooters. I had a local customer with a Vino 50cc that wanted to go faster and we installed the MRP Speedpack. That Vino now does well over 60mph.rajron wrote: I wonder what MRP have up their sleeves for the Buddy 125.

Oh the last pic is of the unifilter we had to install. When swapping a 14m carb for a 21m carb we had no room but to cut a hole in the side. And this scooter sounds like a chainsaw going down the road

I've been riding and hotrodding motorcycles (large and small) and scooters for some 37 years and have had some of the most satisfying adaptations made on small displacement machines. When you only have, say 7 horsepower, an increase of two horsepower is nearly a third, making the power difference ENORMOUS! With a small machine, it's not the total horsepower output that you will notice most, it is the percentage of increased output.
My most recent change was on my '02 Bajaj scooter. 145cc and 9 horsepower. I opened up the exhaust (it was very restrictive) and put in a less dense foam sheet in the air filter. Since it was just a bit lean now, I raised the needle jet in the carburetor a notch. The ultimate difference was VERY noticeable. A lot more power in the bottom end and in the mid-range. No more top speed, but since I live in the mountains here in AZ., I needed what I got a lot more than I need top speed.
Bottom line; if someone wishes to try different things to increase power output, don't discourage them...it can be VERY satisfying.

I know what you mean, no need to make the scoot louder just more power.
A 2 hp increase would be great, I’ve been hearing that number a lot but still haven’t seen how to do it, any ideas? Without going to the machine shop I don’t think it is possible. (Buddy 125)

That was a hypothetical value that was thrown out based on a VERY optomistic increase of 20%. You might more realistically shoot for 10% which would be 1 hp. It's a big waste of money when you consider what you'd gain by selling the ride you are unhappy with and adding the money you'd put into hop ups to get a ride with a bigger motor. Not advocating them but an LX150 Vespa is rated at 12 hp and a GTS 200 at 21hp; and you would have a warantee. This looks like a relatively easy factory modification that shouldn’t affect EPA (not sure if scooters are rated), improve gas mileage with putting the power in the more usable rev range. Any one knows how to get hold of these exhausts? Do you think it’s just a bolt on? See:

If you want to go fast on a 50 cc scooter, go buy a sr-50 Factory. It is VERY tweakable. Fuel injected, computer controlled, fast out of the box 2 stroke. But thats not the point. The Buddy is what it is.
BTW, if you don't mind shifting, look at the RS-50. red line over 15000 rpms, With work aover 14 hp isn't out of the question. Not bad for a little 2 stroke...
When you look at what PGO sold you, realize much of the engineering has to do with reliability. When you tweak an engine, and run the hell out of it, things have a tendency to break. The problem with "things breaking" is that it is often expensive, and someone usually gets hurt.
