My thoughts on the PRIMA pipe

Post by JokerJim »

Ok, so, I went for a cold ride today around town. Pipe looks great and sounds great.

I am not sure if it was do to the cold or what but I was unable to get OLIVE up to 60mph. I think it is slightly better off the line now. I was hoping for more top end. As of now, I will have to say that hasn't happened.

I do not know if they REJET when they put on the pipe. Is it neccessary to REJET for more speed? I put the gas in and kick the tires (my job is done, right?) all the other stuff I depend on those IN THE KNOW.

SO, I am kind of bummed out. :x I may have cancelled my warranty for just noise. ANY IDEAS?

Rejetting wouldn't be for speed...it would be to make the gas/air ratio correct to keep you from burning a hole in your piston or something equally unpleasant. As for not reaching 60, I find that odd. It almost sounds like there may be an obstruction somewhere. Maybe a little quicker off the line? That's not a bad thing...it could suggest a little better performance on hills. I'd give it a day or two and see if your perceptions are correct, and if so, question the dealer who can then in turn question Genuine.

Rejetting would definitely affect speed. Believe me. I have rejetted my Ruckus too many times to find out. Usually anytime you put on a pipe on a carbed scooter you need to rejet, now you probably only need to go up or even down one main jet and that will probably take care of it. I'd pull the plug and see what it looks like and go from there.

I have retrofitted a SuperTrapp muffler to my 125 Buddy and ride it regularly at elevations ranging from about 1000 ft. (Phoenix) to over 7000 ft. (Flagstaff) and have never had to rejet. If anything, it's running just a verrry small bit rich, which won't hurt anything. Any major jetting would have to be done primarily if you alter the airbox.

I was told by Nick at New Urban Transport here Albuquerque, the Buddy was set up on the rich side for our altitude (stock). He said with the Prima exhaust the scoot will run leaner but because the scoot was set up stock on the rich side no re-jetting was necessary. Not sure how that applies to sea level or other altitudes, here we are thin aired @ about a mile high.
