Cleveland! Scraps' All-Club Ride and Party - April 21

Post by smorris »

Good News Everyone!

Scraps is at it again!

He's gotten all soft in the head and decided that it's been too long that there are several scooter clubs in Cleveland. He thought, that they should all meet, ride together, and dance the night away.

Sound crazy?

Well, it did to him, but that ain't gonna stop him. As we speak, he's got his army of disciples getting all the necessary arrangements together to make his dream of Cleveland scootering come true. The details will follow, but, in the meantime, tell everyone you know that they are going to have the time of their lives riding, meeting, and drinking with every other Cleveland scooter owner.

This is about unifying ALL of Cleveland's scooterists and sharing what we have in Cleveland with the rest of the midwest region.

So, think about it. Talk about it. And plan to come out to Cleveland soon!

Saturday, April 21st!! 5 o'clock Lounge.

11904 Detroit Ave Lakewood, OH (Just West of Cleveland)

"Nobody behind the counter at Five o'Clock is sure of how the bar came by its moniker. After all, by the time quitting time rolls around, this place has been cranked up for hours. Located on the edge of Lakewood, it's the prototypical neighborhood bar in a neighborhood known for just that. Five o'Clock is about as no-frills as can be: Just drinks and conversation, and maybe a game of pool or video golf in the back room. It's made for unwinding and forgetting about whatever it was you came to forget. It never takes too many people to make Five o'Clock seem packed and lively." AOL Cleveland City Guide

Let's start the festivities at 8pm. So far, Uncle Scratch's Gospel Revival is playing! They are awesome. Just plain awesome. check them out here: http://rocknrollpurgatory.com/unclescratch/home.html

Also, there just happens to be a local film screening later in the night AND a dj is also already scheduled.

This night is going to be a blast. I'm giddy just thinking about it.

Pass the word on to your regional fellow scooterists. Let's storm this place and fill the street with scoots!

If anyone is haunting the other Ohio, MI, PA, etc. scooter forums, can you please repost the gist of this event and goad these people to come out?

thanks!

-Scraps et al.

There'll be rides thrown in there somewhere!

geez this sounds fun...but drinking and driving on the scoot at night?? Not to mention there is a lot of stop and go blight b/t my place and this joint. Buddy already gets too much attention during the day! I could see going and not drinking...or taking the car and having a couple. Whats the protocol for these events?

Lakewood is about 30 miles for me - not a huge deal, but it'll likely be an hour ride on backroads.

Uncle Scratch's Gospel Revival is great. I haven't seen them in some time. I might just have to plan on making this.

smorris & peabody (and anybody else): drop another post as the event approaches with whether or not you'll be attending.

I reposted this on myspace scooters forum. If I have my Scooter by then I'd love to drive down. Either way, hope it turns out to be an incredible night for everyone.

Regarding drinking and riding -
Since you must be 16 to ride a scooter, and you must be 21 to enter the venue, I am going to go WAY out on a limb here and suggest that we (the attendees) are all adults and are thereby in charge of their own level of intoxication.
Since I am also a huge fan of "Personal Responsibility" I don't think we need to post any warnings about the dangers of drinking and driving and the risks associated with that behavior.
Nobody will be forced to drink...whether that be alcoholic beverages or water or Vernors (even though you should drink as much Vernors as possible, it tickles your nose).
I have been going to the 5 O'Clock for years and have never, ever "accidentally" became intoxicated. They have a strict policy of making sure everyone pays for their drinks and have never been known to actually shoot liquor into anyone's mouth as they were casually strolling through the bar.

Wearing a helmet
Wearing proper safety gear in general
Drinking and driving
Taking perscription drugs and driving
Taking non-perscription drugs and driving
Riding through bad neighborhoods
Riding Chinese scooters
Wearing plaid
Wearing sunscreen

This is just a short list of things that we all have to make choices about. I am of the opinion that if you aren't capable of making these choices wisely you are destined to learn lessons painfully. I don't like you any less, but I won't have a heck of a lot of sympathy for you when something tragic (or inevitable) happens.

Show up at the event, wear the correct gear, meet lots of cool people, don't get drunk or bring a gun or do anything else that will ruin things for everyone else.

Trust me, it won't be the last scooter event you attend where alcohol is present. It's the damn gravel you really have to worry about.

Ok I don't know where any of you joker's were but I was the only Buddy on a 20+ scooter ride. I went on the daytime sat. ride to the eastside. It was a great time, saw some familiar faces and missed some others smorris and bwilms for starters.

Hope to see more Buds on the next one-although those vinatage Vespas were awesome.

Yeah, I know. I missed it. There was no organized scooter riding for me this weekend, but I was only in my car once - all other transportation was of the two-wheeled variety (I got a little mountain biking in too). It was simply delightful.

I was going to go to the All-Club ride, but Lakewood is a hike for me and I had myself a busy day as it was. But don't you worry, future rides are going on the calendar and I'm bound to make a few.

Buddy's need to represent...

Here it still sits... Variator tool should be here tomorrow along with the Euro lamps. Then I can button the engine back up, reinstall it, put in the lamps, GTS horn cover lamp, windscreen, and back on the road.

By the way, Here are Irish Tim's photos of the event. Phil and Darryl stopped by the house afterwards and said what a great ride it was.
