Rear Shocks

Post by UnionZac »

I was looking on the scooterworks website and noticed there is somewhat of a price gap between each type of rear shock. Are there really that many variables where performance is concerned? Is their a better rear shock for riding two-up vs building a voodoo hotrod?

I got this one. It works great for two up.

DJE would you say that this shock is a significant improvement over the stock shock? and did you upgrade that first, or the front forks?

I upgraded the rear first. Yes, I'd saw it was pretty significant. I always felt the rear was a little on the mushy side and this helped to stiffen it up a bit.

Checking the shock posts to make sure my questions aren't answered here before starting a new thread.

Just got burned on the tire width question because I searched poorly.

Eeep.

I'm fast approaching 9K miles on my 2006 Buddy 125, and it's time for a bit of pampering. I'm going to be upgrading to the NCY front forks and a different rear shock pretty soon. I was wondering if y'all are still happy with the YSS adjustable shock. There's a heckuva price difference between this one and the NCY.

Basically, I'm looking for durability and reliability. I weigh well over 200lbs, so I try and purchase the best upgrades as if it's for riding 2-up. I'm not trying to go all awesome voodoo performance here!

I have the exact same rear shock as DJ...I have to say it works great. I've had it for about 3 months now and it rides really nice.

Shockage

Post by scootnfool »

I have this one on the Buddy I ride the kid around on:

http://www.scooterworks.com/YSS_Gas_Pig ... 47C556.cfm

And this one on my wife's:

http://www.scooterworks.com/NCY_Perform ... 93C556.cfm

There is not THAT much difference in ride quality between the two (probably not enough to justify the cost) but the difference from stock is tremendous. The YSS does has better adjustability over the NCY.

IMHO, all scooters should have the NCY forks and upgraded rear shocks, as well as the NCY brake kit.

scootnfool, I agree that the NCY rear shock you have is awesome. I test rode a BlackJack when they first came out, and the ride was like a cloud. Lovely! I'm satisfied with the Buddy's stock shock, but it of course can be improved. I just don't think I need $180+ worth when $60 will suit. I can't imagine the NCY shock lasting three times as long as the YSS adjustable shock.

Thanks very much for your input. I'd love to hear what folks with other rear shocks think.
