I'll only say this is more interesting than sad because the article makes it seem as though the scooterist is going to be okay...
Seattle Parking Officer Hurt in Scooter Crash.
The article also makes it sound like the scooter is an official parking enforcement vehicle. True?

I was shocked and horrified when I found out last year that they're using Honda Metros for their parking enforcement personnel at VCU (which is integrated into downtown Richmond). This might go a long way to explain why there's a number of people who try to kill scooterists around here.

The city of Fort Collins purchased some scooters (Yamaha C3s) for official city use. I'm not sure if it was for parking services.

It is surprisig that a news team would actually know how to differentiate a motorcycle, scooter, and a moped ie not get them confused let alone name the model. I wonder if someone who works for the news team might ride a scooter.Quo Vadimus wrote:The article also makes it sound like the scooter is an official parking enforcement vehicle. True?
Anyways, my take on it is not to over-anyalze things. I don't think most or even a few cagers will begin to associate and target scoots because of this incident, and only a few will shortly remember it.

Ha! I was thinking about myras girls living in Ft. Collins wondering if she saw the ballon boy. BTW, here is an article on the sfgate about the real balloon boy from 1964, living in Marin California, who really got tangled up in a ground rope and was hoisted into the air 3,000 feet. He lived and is fine.BeachBuzz wrote:they're for chasing weather balloonsmyras_girls wrote:The city of Fort Collins purchased some scooters (Yamaha C3s) for official city use. I think they were refering to this vehicle as a scooter. SDPD uses these as parking enforcement vehicles.

The scenery only changes for the lead scooterist.

I know the city of Richmond does (did?) contract with a private company that uses scooters for parking enforcement - they're white with black checkerboard on the back wheel covers. Mind you, I also see the dude with the black-with-a-red-mohawk helmet riding a similar scoot, but I'm pretty sure it's not in an official capacity.
Back when the city PD did parking enforcement, they used to use something similar to that thingamajig with the windshield, but they're pretty unstable. A woman was horribly burned when hers flipped over on a curve.
