San Diego Trip!
Hi there!
I'm a long-time lurker on this board, but now have some questions for all of you -
I'm going out to San Diego soon (11/11-11/16). I'm super excited, I'm going to be with my family while I'm out there and I love them dearly but I would really love to be able to rent a scooter while I'm there to spend some time riding around and seeing/doing things that they might not necessarily enjoy.
Does anyone know of anywhere in the San Diego area I could possibly rent a scooter? I think I'll be staying at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay.
Also, any suggestions on what to do, where to go, what to eat (I'm a vegetarian)?
Thanks so much!
Heather
ps - Brief intro about me:
I'm from Philly, and I bought a red vino-clone in February and decked her out to be a ladybug. Her name was Bella and she is awesome. Feeling the need for more speed and a higher quality bike, I've recently upgraded to a BlackJack. She is in the processes of becoming a "PinkJack" I call her Jacqueline - pics soon, I promise!

The Adventure Center 844 W. Mission Bay Dr had a few scooters the last time I passed by.
It's not far from the Hyatt.

The scenery only changes for the lead scooterist.

if you rent a scoot, let us know! we could arrange a scoot tour of the city.

I rented a GTS from Eagle Rider in SF a couple of months ago. Worked out very well—they gave me the scoot for half their list rate. If you use them, call when you make your reservation and ask if they have any specials or can offer any discounts.n2tattoos wrote:http://www.eaglerider.com/Scooter-Rentals.aspx

The big problem with them is that they wouldn't guarantee me the GTS. It was weird—other locations may be different. The scoot was available when I needed it, so no big deal in the end.

The Swami Records forum has some great San Diego info. Other than that, I'd say check yelp.com. Here's some choices for the Best Mexican food in SD: http://www.swamirecords.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1350

On a recent visit to San Diego I ate at Devine Pastabilities which is not a vegetarian restaurant but they do have some vegetarian items:
http://www.torpasta.com/index.php
I am not a vegetarian but I was going to a Gulls hockey game and I figured that I would see plenty of bloody meat at the game so I opted for a vegetarian dish. I ate Dayna’s Vegan Special which was quite delicious and the reason why I remember it was because is was a “meatless” meatball sandwich. This place is not fancy but you will not break the bank eating there. This restaurant is located near the Sports Arena, not too far from Mission Bay.
I visit San Diego a couple times a year but I have not found a place to rent a 125cc or greater scooter. Eagle Rider keeps on teasing me with emails for scooter rentals in San Diego but they have yet to deliver on that promise. If you end up renting a scooter, it would be a nice touristy ride around Mission Bay then go to Pacific Beach and Mission Beach then work your way over to Old Town before returning to Mission Bay. The total round trip is probably only about 15 or 20 miles but that loop will take you through a lot of touristy areas in which you will want to stop frequently.
Have fun.

Eagle Rider rents LX 150s, GTS 250s, and some MP3s. They also had some Piaggio BVs, I think. Availability varies by location, though.pcbikedude wrote:Unfortunately, it appears all the rental companies just rent 50cc scooters. It get you around in the Mission Beach/Bay area. Lots of nice coves and sailboats to take pictures of.

Thanks for all your help so far!
Unfortunately, Eagle Rider in SD has no scooters. And, their smallest motorcycle is a Harley Sportster 1200. yikes! That is way bigger than the 125 motorcycle I rode during my MSF course. I think I will probably not go about renting from them.
Top Dog appears to only have 50s, but I might see if I can convince my family to all go out - I doubt it, but think it might be fun.
I will be sure to check out the scooter squadron tonight too!

Hiya, Heather! I am a vegetarian (and soon to be Buddy owner) in SD. I don't have any suggestions for rentals but I come bearing veggie options!
For a quick and easy bite to eat, Sushi Deli is awesome (and cheap) and they have a TON of vegetarian options. Also, Pokez and Sipz have great vegetarian fare. All three are cheap and easy when on the go. Hit the Gaslamp for tons more chow and fun hangouts. Hope you enjoy SD!

I actually write a guide on San Diego called Local Wally's Guide to San Diego at www.localwally.com. I'm in the process of updating it (needs it bad!) and the new version will rock. Check it out if you are looking for stuff to do, etc. Also, you can follow my progress and see new pics at www.twitter.com/localwally
BTW, rode my Bud to the Carlsbad Street Fair this weekend and parked in front of a car that was parked about 6 feet behind the stop sign. The guy comes out and says "YOU CAN'T PARK THERE" and then goes on to say I'll get a ticket for being too close to the stop sign. OK, I move. I come back and that jerk moved his car up right to the stop sign so no one else could park there. Incredible!
