Are little kids fascinated by your scooter?

Post by codemonkey »

The other day I was leaving the gym and a lady and her little girl were standing there staring at my scooter (the little girl was maybe 3). The lady said that it took her like 10 minutes to drag her daughter into the gym cuz she wanted to keep looking at my scooter. So as I was gearing up, I showed her my jacket and my helmet and my sunglass (they have pink sparkles) and then she watched me drive away. She was completely mezmerized. This isn't the first time that this has happened. Anytime a little kid sees it, they just stand there and stare. Does this happen to you too?

Oh yeah...and they all want you to wave. So when you wave at them it's like a movie star said Hi. :D

Funny story: I was riding with my husband on his big yellow Helix and we were putt-putting through a quiet neighborhood, no traffic. Came around a corner and there were two little girls playing in the street with their tricycles. When they looked up and saw us coming, they stared and then started SCREAMING and running in circles! It was like a comedy scene in the movies, I couldn't stop laughing.

Last week we were riding our scoots together, when we came through another neighborhood and kids were helping with yard work...one little boy, about seven, just stood with his mouth hanging open as we passed. I tooted at him and he was thrilled to pieces! So much fun...

The other day, I was at a stop light and there was a little boy in the back seat of the car next to me staring. So I waved and he got so excited it was like his head was about to explode.

I LOVE that! I love that a scooter makes not just me, but others happy. :D

I've had the same types of reactions from kids. It's great.

The best is when you're on a group ride and the little kids stand there amazed with a huge grin on their face as everyone drives by waving and tooting :)

^^ On group rides, even adults stand there and smile.

:D Being a single dad of two little girls I know first hand how much kids love scooters. I think my girls love my scoot more than me atleast once a week I will pick them up( one at a time of course) from school on my scooter and they love it they always ask me to do an extra lap around the school so they can wave at their friends puts a huge smile on their and my face! Never had that reaction in a stinking car!

My first "long ride" was to a custard place packed with kids. One was a bit too interested-he started climbing all over it (with parents watching). I was so stunned I didn't say anything. But others were appropriately interested, just looked and smiled or touched it as they walked by. It was cute.

I usually get more of a reaction from adults than kids. The kids at the middle school, on base, whooped and hollared. Some thinking it was great, others thinking it was a joke. Two of the guys, who installed our central A/C unit, totally loved it. They're both bikers. My neighbor is seriously thinking of a scooter now, especially since they're so much cheaper than motorcycles. My new neighbor (he's Pakistani) was amazed that he moved in next door to an American who only rides a scooter, instead of driving around in a car.

I just wish the "newbies" on this base would quit ignoring me on the road, resulting in a lot of near misses. We're actually getting fewer and fewer bicycle riders on this base now too. Nobody wants to go out in anything less than a Panzer.

Kids dig the scooter.

My daughter, who is 8, loves to sit on the scooter and pretend she's flying a starfighter.

There is a daycare in the house next to ours, and on nice days the kids are outside when I pull into the driveway. It is a tossup which the kids like more, the scooter or my dog, but they love both. It's fun.

Back when I taught swim lessons I was the chosen hero of the summer for one particular 6 year old boy. My cool points only skyrocketed when he saw my scooter. His mom asked if it would be ok for him to sit on it, and I had no problem with that. She eventually had to drag him away so I could leave for the day. It would not surprise me if in 10 years he goes out and buys some sort of 2 wheeler.

Agreed!

I've seen a few people walk by where I work and stop to look at my scoot in the driveway. Various looks from adoration to "good idea". I get a lot of thumbs up in traffic and kids do often point when I go by.

My cats even seem to like it. They often are sitting outside by the kitchen door when I get home and if I'm on my motorcycle they take off. With the scooter they just sort of sit there and watch me.
