DR PULLEY VARIATOR KIT AND 14G SLIDERS

Post by gearhead »

im going to be installing one into my gf's scooter pretty soon. She tells me that she's got a good acceleration with her stock setup right now. i told her that she would get a better top end with a heavier set of sliders with the compensation of less acceleration on the low end. what do you guys think about the 14g sliders? anyone running this setup on their buddy125 right now?

but how would it influence the performance? she already gets really fast acceleration at the get go so she doesn't mind getting a good top end

Slower acceleration and not much more top end.

14 will put it too far out of the powerband. It'll bog down the engine much like trying to ride a MC in 5th or 6th gear all the time when it should be in 3rd or 4th.

14g weights are for counteracting realyl strong Contra Springs and for engines that have some major upgrades (displacement and port/polish).

A lot of people like the 11g weights. I like the 12g weights in the 150. I'd go with either of those two. No more and no less, especially for general around town riding.

To heavy or to light. They will affect top and bottom end. But not a possitive result for both. Your trying to find the balance that works best for you. This may change with rider weight or rider style. The weights are just one small step in the headache that is tuneing a scooter.Image

Yeah, 14g is way too heavy. Without other mods you'll likely be loosing BOTH top and bottom end.

I just convinced myself to switch to 12 gram weights (after contemplating 13 gram ones) and am glad I went with this set up. Not only do I have much more bottom end and torque (I also just installed a prima pipe) but I did gain about 3-5 mph on the top end.
