Not exactly new (2007), but new to me!

Mine looks just like the one in the picture, same color, but has a top case.
This is the least powerful of the Piaggio MP3s (a 250), but for my purposes it will do just fine. I've had it on the freeway a couple of times (in the rain both times...) and it is super stable. It's supposed to get in the low 60s for gas mileage, so that's not as good as the Buddy, but still much better than my cage.

I had been using cold weather as a reason not to ride (because I hate not having enough storage for all my riding gear when I get to work), among other things, so now I don't have that excuse! I can store my helmet and riding boots in the top case, and my winter outerwear (armored jacket and armored pants) under the seat. I park in an underground garage at work, and it's such a hassle to haul all that up to my desk every time I ride in (okay, I admit I'm a wimp!).

So I am selling one of my Buddys, but I am still keeping the other...they are much too much fun to part with!

Sorry about the non-Buddy thread...

That is a fun ride. Now you just need the matching helmet.

get it painted to match and you'll be set!

good for you!

Just last night I started reading about the MP3. Sounds like an awesome design, very fun to drive, and maybe a bit safer than a regular 2 wheeler.

Can I ask how many miles yours had on it when you bought it? Also, what did you pay for it?

Have fun with it, and ride safe!

don't forget to lock those front wheels before getting off. Everyone in our SD Meetup on an MP3 (we've got 10+ of them) have dropped their MP3 by forgetting to lock those front wheels. A few have been pinned underneath them. It's a MP3 phenomenon - each have said they feel so stable they just forgot ONCE. All of those folks LOVE their MP3. Fanatical they are :)

Nice, I would be lying if I said that I wasn't a little jealous.

Yes, I've dropped my mp3. It wasn't from forgetting to lock the front wheels, but forgetting the front wheels were locked. I rev 'd up my scooter because I couldn't hear it. Then, a series of events: a jolt similar to a hit in the back of your knees, my inner voice saying, "Crap!", and the scooter leaning toward the left. I was able to jump to the left to keep it from falling. A friend locked the front wheels. While pushing back up, I rev'd the engine again, the front wheels unlocked, & I just pushed it over to the right. D'oh!

I bought mine at a shop that was closing in Bellingham, WA; it costed less than a Vespa 250. I literally rode it off the showroom floor, down Chuckanut Drive to Seattle. I got the jitters while maneuvering around Seattle (the scooter weight, my height impairment, inclines, & the drop). It took me a couple months to get over my jitters. Plus, I purchased a pair of Crazy Bomb Doc Martens with platform soles.

It's a 2007 and just had 747 miles on it. I got it from a Piaggio dealer who had several new ones and two used ones (both 2007s and both light blue). He was asking $5,900 for each before tax. Mine had no accessories, but had the lowest miles, hadn't been dropped and had just been serviced. The other one had one of those comfort windshields on it (like 4 feet tall, and makes the scooter look like an insect...) and had a matching topcase. That one had been dropped, and had around 1,500 miles. I offered them $5,500 out the door for the lower mileage scooter, if they would mount the top case on it as well. They ended up lowering the total price so that it was $6,200 after tax (tax being about 10% up here). It wasn't what I had hoped to get it for, but better than $5,900 PLUS tax PLUS a top case.

Earlier that day I had seen an ad for a different 2007 (a black one) with 6,800 miles that they were asking $4,200 for. I really didn't want to get a black bike...really trying to think about the conspicuity aspect here! Also, the miles were a bit higher than I wanted to go for, not knowing if they were as reliable as a Buddy!

So what I got wasn't a screaming deal or anything, but for the low miles, the color I wanted, and the top case thrown in and mounted, I think it was fair.

I rode it home (about 1/2 hour away) in the dark, in the rain and on the freeway. None of those were my intention, but that's just how it worked out. I didn't know the area, and so the backroads didn't work out. Anyhow, it felt very stable on the freeway even in the rain, and felt like it had a good bit of pick-up. It will never go super fast (the 250 model is only supposed to go about 77), but 60 to 65 is fast enough for me. I don't do a lot of freeway driving, but at least now I feel safe if I have to go somewhere that involves some freeway travel!

One of my next rides was to work in the rain. Again I hopped on the freeway for part of the ride. On the way (although I was well back from the car in front of me) the traffic braked more suddenly than I expected. I about panicked, remembering sliding on to my side and into an SUV with my Buddy in the rain. But there was no sliding or anything, just a nice smooth stop (courtesy of 3 wheels, all of which have disc brakes). Whew!

I agree, I will need to be careful about the suspension lock. Hopefully I will learn from the mistakes of others and not do that one, but we'll see.

I'm looking forward to summer, though, when I'll be riding the Buddy to work. I do like the MP3, but the Buddy is so responsive and just plain fun also!

Congrats! I've ridden the MP3 250 and it's tons of fun. Anyone who gets a chance to test ride one should check them out. It's a familiar, yet totally different experience. The engineering is really good. Such an interesting machine.

nice to read about all the details of your deal. And the quick stop in the rain too! Sounds like you got a great bike and a great deal!

Reading about the rain and the dark brought back memories for me. I lived in Renton for 4 years during the 1980's. Lived in the Seattle area 2 different times for about 9 years each time. Almost bought a scoot while living on Whidbey Island but didn't jump out of the cage till recently.

I love the Seattle area, love the mountains there during the very short summer hiking season. But I remember so much of the year being a waiting game for me, waiting for the rain to stop, waiting for the sun to head back north, waiting for summer to come again. I admire you folks who live up there and enjoy it year round, even the rain!
