NBR: Scooters in comics

Snipped from another thread, so I can go off on a tangent...

Excellent taste. Morrison sometimes gets a little weird for me, but it's all good.

Speaking of Vertigo Comics, have you read Deadenders by any chance? It's written by Ed Brubaker who is a (former?) scooterist. It's set in a near-future post-not-quite-apocalypse, and the central characters are bunch of neo-Mods on scooters. I liked it. The covers had checkers!

Man, I'm gonna have to pickup some more comics. Its been a long time since I've ready anything... Though I've got two graphic novels on my desk waiting to be read, Maus, and Too Much Coffee Man's guide for the perplexed.

Heh, talk about extreme—Maus and Too Much Coffee Man!

There are many comics with scooters. I liked Dead Enders, though it ended rather abruptly. There's also The Originals by Watchmen illustrator Dave Gibbons.

And, Blue Monday by Chynna Clugston Major

No scooters in Evan Dorkin's Pirate Corp$ and Hectic Planet comics but lots of ska-related imagery and so on:

100 Bullets #83, a very scooterific issue of a great series, cover by Dave Johnson

Amazing Spider-Man 602, a Lambretta (with some serious perspective and proportions problems). No scooters in the actual ish, though.

…and the classic "Swing with Scooter," s short-lived Archie knock off by DC:

Manga are full of scooters. I came across one last night while reading volume 2 of Naoki Urasawa's "Monster."

I have a whole gallery of pics of scooters in anime… somewhere. I'll post it someday. :)

Wow, I think I'm gonna have to try to pick up some of The Originals. I really liked The Watchmen when I read it and That illustration looks great. Do you know if they have collected the series into one book like they did with the watchmen?

Yeah, The Originals is available in paperback. Good book. I'm a little surprised it didn't pop into my head, because a friend of mine was talking about it a few weeks ago.

As for Swing with Scooter... squares are so dudsville when they try to be hip. :)

The Originals is okay… Gibbons doesn't write nearly as well as he draws, though.

Granted, the story isn't particularly... original.

I have yet to pick up a copy of http://www.thetwopercentsolution.com/ but it looks pretty good.

Ansis Purins from Skavoovie & the Epitones (remember them?!) makes comics. http://www.ansis.tv/ I remember one of his first books featured a bunch of rudeboys on scooters, but I'd have to start dragging out longboxes in order to find out the name of it. *Bad librarian, no mylar sleeves for me!*

Right now, one of my favorite comic artists is Tristan Wilder http://johnnythunderz.livejournal.com/ His stuff is more Rocker than Mod and features more tonne-up motorcycles & greased-up hotrods than scooters, but it's mos def worth a look.

This jawn has more Mod roundels than you can shake a RAF plane at http://www.goodnightkeithmoon.com/
