Unless you've got a link or a part number, I'm not convinced that there's an actual "kit". This requires both a new crank and top end. It'd involve splitting the case and a complete overhaul.

Please prove me wrong. :)

You're wrong ;) Its in the dealer's catalog, but not on the scooterworks site.

Its a top end kit only, you end up with 171.3cc, and there's no cutting involved. If you DO want to do the crank you end up with 180cc.

Mr Miller JUST did this kit on his Blackjack, so hopefully he'll chime in on how its doing for him. But it DOES exist, and doesn't require cutting though its as big as the 150's can get without cutting.

Mr Miller... your turn.

I've still yet to see this for myself. It'll stay on my "hoax list" along with the Easter Bunny until such time. :P

So that's an NCY 61mm kit, then, right? Is it ceramic coated?

Yep, its a 61mm kit, I seem to remember it being NOT ceramic coated, while the 173cc top end was, but required cutting.

One of the things that makes these engines so much better than the cheap gy6 engines is the ceramic coating. I personally wouldn't risk loosing that feature.

Man, I had my hopes up and everything.

I've been interested for a while, but that ceramic coating thing might be a bit of a deal breaker.

Ok, its part number 1100-1288. Its listed as "NCY 61mm Cast Iron Cylinder Kit for Buddy 150/GY6" in the dealer catalog, and thats it. Seeing as they call it "cast iron" Its probably not the ceramic coated aluminium that the 161cc kit uses. But Scooterworks'd be able to tell you for sure.

Hehe.. part of the frustration is that I've been told several things about that kit by SW, and they were conflicting. No ceramic and doesn't fit without cutting was what most of it came to. It's frustrating and until I hear success stories, I'm not wasting another dime on performance parts, lol.

Be aware that there are *SEVERAL* bigbore kits for the 150 right now. There's the 61mm kit that I just gave the part number. Ryan told me that this fits without cutting, and this was confirmed when Mr Miller installed his. There is also a 62mm kit, part number 1100-1270, that results in 176.9cc and this one DOES require cutting.

Looking at the info I have, there is also 1100-1014, which is a 62mm kit listed as CERAMIC. This also lends credence to the ones that're labeled 'cast iron' not being coated.

There is also 1100-1252, which is a 63mm ceramic kit. Those are all the ones that I'm aware of, but there could be others. They don't list much info in the catalog, so I wouldn't be 100% sure that the 'cast iron' ones arn't also ceramic coated, but I'd doubt it.

Also, 61mm is the biggest installable kit on the 150's without cutting.

if given the choice between a cast iron 61mm kit with no cutting and a 62mm ceramic kit that needed cutting, I'd go with the 62mm kit.

Tracking down non-conflicting info on these things is a pretty aggravating process. I've now got an almost stock bike, a pile of parts that don't work and a wealth of conflicting info on performance parts. I'm just doing my part to make sure that the info is clear. Hehe. As always, if you can prove me wrong, or correct me, I welcome it. I want to hear first hand info that it does fit and works. I mean I *really* want to hear that it works first hand.

I could drop the 59mm ceramic kit in, but that's too much coin ($200) for a 9cc improvement, lol.

Heh, yeah. I hear ya. I've been there :) PM Mr Miller, he's JUST done the cast iron one last week, see what he thinks... If you're willing to cut it though, we both know ceramic is better :) The cost on the cast iron ones isn't bad though $109 for the 61mm last I checked.

Maybe he's not watching this thread? I would imagine if it didn't work, he'd have sent me a PM asking why the parts I recommended to him were crap ;) Further, he's PM'd me with initial results, and a few more questions after riding it with the kit installed.

Hello everyone:), I took the winter off, not as hard core as some of you about riding in the rain and cold;)

Still working on figuring out the 171.3 kit. I have had zero problems thus far, and I have about 350mi on it so far (many more to come)

Top speed is down about 72mph I weigh 225ish
Mid range is noticeably better great for around town and the HWY.
Also much better at maintaining speed on hills which was my main objective (living in the "100 Valleys of the Umpqua)

give me another 300mi and an oil change, hopefully have some good news!

YAY the weather is getting warmer:)

Yep, unless you want to swap the crank in the 125 to the 60mm one with the 15mm wrist pin(same stroke, larger pin). Then it'll fit. Infact you'll end up with BIGGER than a 171.
