220 Genuine?

Post by bendbuddy »

Any word on the timeline for the new scoot? Is it on the Blur platform or Buddy? How about the cost?

^Sorry, guess I wasn't clear. The old thread contain "old news". Which is an oxymoron. We want "new news".

I asked "So, what's the deal with the big vintage-styled, cruiser-sized scooter that was also supposed to be coming out this model year? Is it getting pushed back because of the new Blur and 4T Stella?" on the Genuine facebook page.

Here's the response: "not sure, but I know it wasn't pushed back because of these."

They first said Spring 2010 for the cruiser scoot. Obviously they've pushed that timeline back, but I'm still holding out hope it'll come out this year!

Genuine's M.O. seems to be not leaking too much info till they're on the container ship bobbing its way over from Taiwan, but can't we at least see a picture of one to help begin the process of dismantling our financial restraint? (Or our spouse's financial restraint!)

I've been working on dismantling my spouse's financial restraint since last summer. One day the light came: he has multiple guitars for multiple uses! Why not multiple scooters then?

The 270cc (or so) touring scoot is coming. Probably a late 2010 model.

There are a lot of reasons for it not debuting in the spring. I don't know if this is one of them, but 2009 was a devastating year for dealers, many of whom had to blow out '09 models to make room for 2010s. Genuine is already debuting 2 new models—the Stella 4T and the Blur 220i—both of which have had very good response from dealers. The Stella is sold out! Launching the touring scooter at the same time would have taken some of the attention away from the other new scoots and would have been tougher on dealers, who would have wound up ordering smaller quantities of all three.

This is the first model designed by Genuine and I'm sure they want to get it right and give it a big launch. Also, it costs a lot to being new models and new engines to the US and takes quite a bit of time.

Late 2010? I can live with that. Especially if they leak a picture or two to help hold us over.

Oh, I wish! The design is top secret at this point.

Have to say I'm starting to get discouraged about getting one of the mythical retro touring scoots. At least I know the Blur is real, or maybe a suzuki TU250. They're both about the same price but I always lean toward scoot versus motorcycle. The other thing I'm thinking about is going in the opposite direction and getting an electric bicycle, but my wife would kill me if I bought more than one of these so its up to Genuine to make my mind up for me by releasing top secret photos of this retro touring scoot so I know that its not just a sick joke perpetrated by cryptozoologists :)

your not talking about expressways are you? I would be way to scared to take something that small on the expressway, although I do see the occasional Buddy 125 on I-94 here. I'd just be worried that the scooter is too light and that I'd get sucked into a semitruck

On the other hand, I'm sure that it would handle highways just fine since they tend to have lower speed traffic 50-60 mph. I'm kinda weird though in that I try to avoid the expressway even while driving my car if at all possible, so even if I had a 2000cc gigantic motorbike I wouldn't take it on the expressway

In DE the limit is 150cc and I have had my Blur (150) on the interstate for a few miles between downtown and the burbs. I've only done it on off peak times when I was in more of a hurry than I like to be on the scooter. It's not the best feeling but it handles it OK under optimal conditions. Since I've 'upgraded' to sliders for better urban perfornamce I've lost a little top end, which was at the limit previously. I'm anxious to hear about the 220's real world performance stats. There may be an upgrade in my future but my biggest hold back is finding out if my saddle is transferrable.

In Oregon its 150cc as well. I shoot down the interstate fairly often. Though I can definitely keep up with traffic.
