Okay, we've dealt with this here before, but here is the answer to your problem...Yes, WD-40 will work, but only to a small extent. You need to pop the front "nose-piece" off of your scooter. There is a big silver screw in the front and two small ones on the back side that you need to remove. Then carefully pull the cover off, being careful not to break any of the tabs. Then, as you are looking at the conglomeration of wires and pieces that are now exposed, cast your eyes to the left and find the ignition switch. Coming off of the ignition switch is what appears to be a cable. It appears that way because it is! THAT is what operates your seat latch. There is a long, "tunnel" type of nut and a small locknut. Loosen the locknut and screw the long nut away from the ignition switch. This will effectively shorten the "throw" of the switch...
I know, I know...too much information. Anyway, rotate it out a turn or two, check it to see if it works better (it should) and retighten the locknut. Reassemble the nose and be happy.

Or for those of you less mechanically inclined, the WD-40 still does a world of good.Keys wrote:I know, I know...too much information. Anyway, rotate it out a turn or two, check it to see if it works better (it should) and retighten the locknut. Reassemble the nose and be happy.

Trust me, mine was so out of adjustment that "lube" wouldn't help, I fixed mine before I ever got a reply but thanks for the help. I hope everyone actually fixes theirs it took me 5 minutes for 2 scooters including time for diagnosisKidDynomite wrote:Or for those of you less mechanically inclined, the WD-40 still does a world of good.Keys wrote:I know, I know...too much information. Well I made the adjustment. I have never had any issues with it releasing the seat, just with it closing. I adjusted the cable, no change. I really took a look at how the seat was hitting the lock and it hits off center. So I took the seat and bucket out and tried to adjust the lock over to one side. This also did not do much to help not having to hit the seat hard to lock it. But, now I don't have to BEAT on it. I really can't shorten the cable any more with out cutting it!!! So, I quess I will just deal with it.

Crazy? Both mine and the wifes are easier both closing and opening now, I usually just set it down then sit on it ( if Im getting on not off ) I still have to hit or drop mine to get it to lock properlybrat wrote:Well I made the adjustment. I have to sit on my seat to get it to get the catch to work, which I don't mind, but I also have to tug on it a bit to open.
Have any of you noticed more trouble opening the seat when it is considerably colder outside? In other words, when its colder the cable shrinks a tad and makes it harder to release the seat?
Gonna use a bit of WD on it for now but when it starts to cool off I'll probably make the adjustment that Keys suggested.
(Nice avatar btw Keys. Thats new yeah?)

My seat doesn’t close the best but I know the spot on the seat that is right above the latch. I close the seat and then instead of sitting on it to latch it I put the heel of my hand on the sweet spot and give it a firm push.
If you go the lube route a much better alternative would be a good bicycle chain lube which can then be used to stop squeaks in hinges and all the other things you would normally use WD-40 for. This is much better than WD-40 which is a DIRT MAGNET and you’ll end up with the same (or worse) problem eventually.
