Security system/ alarm - would this work?

I was looking online for security systems for the buddy after I got my bicycle stolen this week. I found this website:

I was wondering if any of these alarms (they all seem to be the same) would work inside the buddy and if they could easily be installed. Also, if they can be installed, how well would it work at deterring someone from stealing it. I know that if someone wants to steal it, they will probably find a way, but I just want to make it more difficult.

If anyone can help me, that would be great.

As long as it's armed, it should still go off, even while it's in the truckbed, since it'll be moving. You could email the Xena people in the thread mentioned.

I'd advise locking it down to something. If you want to make it doubly hard, get a disk lock alarm and a chain lock.

The Xena makes it pretty tough to steal a scoot and to use it once stolen. The problem is, it's not much of a visual deterrent and the scoot can be lifted into a truck. A bright reminder cable (from the lock to your handlebars) helps with this a bit. he reminder cable is a very good thing to have anyways. Keeps you from trying to ride off with the lock attached, something not all too uncommon.

If you're really concerned, the best combination is something like the Xena and a big chain lock like the Kryptonite Fugeddaboutit (sic?) securing the scoot to a pole or some such thing. Another option is a heavy duty cover that you can padlock at the bottom.

But, as we've found, a really committed thief can get through almost anything. The best you can do is make it as difficult as possible and do whatever you can to keep them from even trying.

xena was a great deterrant this past January. It went off, theves left my new Buddy laying on it's side and did not take my bike. They were trying to load it into the truck, carried it from in front of my car where I had the scooter parked. Xena squeealed. Someone tried 2 weeks ago to "check out" to see if my scoot was more "stealable" now. Xena dutifully went off. I do have the scooter chained to an anchor in my front step with Fohgetabout it Kryptonite chain lock. I also use generic wire type lock which I pull through disk on the back tire. In other words I made it as unappetizing to steal as possible. I will also be able to hear saw being used since my scooter is now right under my window

I have a similar alarm, Spy brand. It was pretty easy to install and is easy to use. I'd rather not get down to ground level and mess with the wheel, or I would have bought the Xena. The alarm combined with locking the front wheel so the scooter can't be driven away is an equally good deterrent, in my opinion.

A smart theif would know the sticker is a fake. lo-jack does not make stickers. The goal is to let the thieves think they got away with the crime, not have them rip apart your vehicle looking for the system.

I installed the Gorilla alarm on my B-Jack. I use it for quick stops when im only gone for a few minutes. I use it AND the Xena disk lock when im going to be away for longer periods.

This thing is loud as hell, you don't run the risk of trying to drive off and ruining your disc and you don't have to put it on every time you stop. Sensitivity can be adjusted so that a light breeze sets it off but it's windy here so mine isn't. Pair this with my center stand lock and it's very hard to steal (won't say impossible)

I stopped to help a guy pushing his scooter yesterday. Turns out his scooter had an anti-theft alarm and he had leaned on the key fob button without realizing it while shopping. He came out, couldn't start the scooter, so he just started pushing it home. Lots of people around (outside a WalMart), but no one did anything or called the police. Just watched him push it away. I found him about 2 miles down the road from the walmart. After making sure it was really his scooter, I showed him which button to push to turn off the alarm (was still going off intermittently) and re-enable the ignition.

If you want an alarm, I'd go with a Xena as recommended: it actually immobilizes your front wheel. Physically locking it to something is your best bet, though.

The picture of the Xena cable and adapter ring shown is a little misleading to my eye. The Xena cable is actually 5' long and 1/2" diameter (including the outer covering). The cable's end fits through the end loop so you wrap the cable around a pole (or other anchor point), then through the loop and out to the disc lock. The point is, 5' is definitely long enough to be a useful length, and compact enough to fit under the seat. I share this because I didn't really get the "feed through" thing at first.

Speaking of centerstand lock, I'd like to get my hands on a Metro and see how it's centerstand lock is rigged up. It's got a lock lever under the seat that locks the centerstand down. It's one of the neatest features I've seen come from a manufacturer.

Anyone have access to a shop manual or parts diagram for that thing?

I got the Xena disk-lock. I can't imagine someone stealing it with that thing on. It goes off with even the SLIGHTEST vibration. I have to be very careful just sliding the key into it, or it will go off while I am trying to unlock it, which is the only annoying thing. Also, it is 129db, so if someone is driving down the road with that thing going off in the back of their truck, any cop should stop them.

I use the Xena at home (since I park it out of view of the road behind my house), and when I run to stores and such with nowhere to use the chain. While at work, I chain it to a tree, and don't bother with the Xena. It's a populated enough area that I'm not worried about someone coming at the heavy chain with a saw.

Actually we are in a very quiet middle class neighborhood. Problem is bad guys know we are in a nice neighborhood and have "stuff". So they come over to visit. Trying to steal a scooter was the "first". Some neighbors caught some folks trying to find cars with open doors and called the cops. I am just trying to be proactive. Today I had some Azalea bushes planted around where my scooter sits. Once they are taller they will do nice job hiding it or at least making it less visible from the street. Looks pretty and environmentally "correct"

The flip side of making it difficult to see your scooter from the street is the thieves (who already know it's there) will thank you because they can then hide out of sight behind the bushes as they work to disable your theft deterrent system.

I think a motion activated light would be good. Nothing like drawing attention to the thieves with a nice bright flood light.

The bushes are kind of small right now but I am relying on sounds (ie drill, saw, Xena) vs visual. During theft attempt scooter was parked on the street in front of the house in front of my SUV. When theves dragged it out and Xena went off they left it laying on its side but it was in a shade from my car so I could not in the dark see it at all. This last time Xena sqeeled and I was out there in a second. I have solar lights on my lawn and they eluminate scooter cover where I can see my scoot is still there

I put a Cyclone C-11 talking alarm system on my GTV. Luckily Vespa puts an alarm connection on this particular scooter so all the connections were under the knee pad. Took me about 45 minutes to install it.

The best thing was the price $52.00 delivered from the UK

I can say that the alarm on Dutch's scooter is very polite, and an absolute hoot! It even says "please" when reminding you to arm the alarm.
