Road trip ideas for the NYC area?

After reading the post about the less-traveled road-trip, I am jealous! Does anyone know of some relaxed places to ride to in the NYC area (starting point Brooklyn). I'd love to get away from all the potholes, swerving taxis, and delivery trucks. Thanks.

...but if you have the 125, I hear Route 9 is a nice scenic ride up through the state. I've done 9 in the Adirondacks bordering Lake Champlain. *Lovely* area if you have the time on a long weekend to ride up there.

Ride east on the Island, go to Jones Beach, follow as many of the smaller roads as you can and end where you can't go any more at Montauk....... I never thought of riding the length of the Island before on a Scoot but I bet it'll be a blast!

On July 7th a few people from the city and Jersey are meeting up on the Brooklyn side of the Verrazzano and riding out to Montauk. Let me know and I'll get you in contact with them.
